Bad Luck

It seems that when bad luck hits my family it just pours bad luck.  My poor mom has been through so much lately.  Her car has been in the shop three times in the past two weeks.  First it was the fuel filter and now it’s the transmission.  Her car is only 5 years old.  Luckily, both have been covered under warranty so far and she has only had to pay her deductibles (which are high enough themselves).  Then, her temporary crown fell off, but she was able to get it stuck back on.  Of course, come Sunday night, it [ ... ]

Weigh-In 1/29/08

Well, as I expected, I gained 1.3 pounds this week, according to the scale.  As my previous post mentioned, I had a little binge Saturday night and went over my total flex points for the week, so this was not surprising at all.  I’ve been a good girl ever since, though, and hopefully it’ll pay off next week.

Binge

Well, in the interest of being honest with myself, I had a mini binge Saturday night.  We won’t even go into all that I ate.  I guess after my undeserved gain last week and seeing that I was gaining again this week, I decided to make sure that I would deserve my gain this week.  <SIGH>  I hate that I did it, but I did get right back on plan again today. I’m terrified to see what the scale holds on Tuesday.  But, whatever it is, I will go on from there, as I’ve seen much worse numbers before.  This is just one more [ ... ]

Pringles Stix and More

While perusing the aisles at my grocery store yesterday, I came across an exciting new snack by Pringles.  They’re called Pringles Stix and seem to be similar to crackers, but in a stick form.  There are several different flavors, but I have only tried the “honey and butter” ones.  They were delicious.  They also have Wheat, Vanilla, and Pizza flavors.  I would have tried the pizza ones, but they were out of that flavor, of course.  These packages, which contain quite a few sticks (or stix), are only 90 calories and have a points value of 2. I’ve also fallen in [ ... ]

I Peeked

I admit it.  I peeked.  I peeked at the scale today.  Sadly, it says that I’ve gained another pound.  See, this is the danger of peeking at the scale in between weigh-ins.  It can make you crazy.  I refuse to believe that I will gain for a second week in a row while following the plan.  Keep your fingers crossed that it’ll disappear by Tuesday!

Old Clothes

Since I began my weight loss journey, I have dropped 10-11 sizes in tops and at least 8 sizes in pants.  Crazy.  As you can imagine, it’s been rather expensive updating my wardrobe.  I had what rapidly became a leaning tower of clothes.  As I went down sizes and clothes became too big, I would just throw them on top of the pile.  I have to admit that it was fun actually dropping sizes for the first time in my life, rather than growing into larger ones. Over the weekend, I began bagging up these clothes into garbage bags.  They ended up filling [ ... ]

Cheez-It Cheddar Chex Mix

As I mentioned in a previous post,  I love 100 calorie packs for their portion control.  One of my newest finds is a yummy snack found in the form of 100 calorie packs of Cheez-It Cheddar Chex Mix.  They make them in original flavor, as well, but my natural obsession with cheese has lead me to only try the cheese version.  And let me tell you, they are scrumptious.  The portions are rather small (as in just about all 100 calorie packs), but I believe every bite is worth it!

Concert

The night of the concert ended up being an incredible night.  The concert could not have been any better (other than nearly freezing our asses off while waiting for the doors to open).  One of my best friends (of 16 years) came to town to go with me and we had a lot of fun.  No matter how many times I go into a new and uncertain situation, I always get nervous – as do the majority of people, I would assume.  My nervousness, on the other hand, tends to border on panic.  And yet, nearly every time, I come through [ ... ]

Weigh-In 1/22/08

Well, I gained 1.9 pounds this week.  How?  I have no idea, because I followed the plan.  I’m not going to stress over it, though, because sometimes that’s just how it goes.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed for next week.

Defenses

I visited some really good out-of-town friends a couple of weekends ago and had a really wonderful time.  It’s hard to live so far away from them.  But while I was there, one of my friends noticed a habit that I have, of crossing my arms.  I stand with my arms crossed.  I sit with my arms crossed.  I walk, at times, with my arms crossed. I know body language.  I’ve studied it, had classes in it at work, etc.  I know that it portrays someone that is closed off to whoever s/he is talking to and appears unapproachable.  But it’s [ ... ]

Regeneration

I saw this fact posted on the web today: If 80 percent of your liver were to be removed, the remaining   part would continue to function, and within a few months the   liver would have reconstituted itself to its original size. So wouldn’t it be great if medical scientists could figure out what it is about the liver that makes it regenerate itself, and then find a way to get other cells in the body to be able to do it, too?

Concert Nerves

So in the interest of breaking out of my comfort zone, I’m going to a concert at a local theater on Saturday.  I’m excited because I really love the band that is playing, but I’m also a nervous wreck.  I’ve mentioned before how I hate being in unfamiliar situations where I don’t know what to expect.  I’ve never been to this theater, so know nothing about it.  I do know that it is a standing concert, but have no idea really how big the place is.  To add to the stress, I’ve learned that it is completely sold out.  Not [ ... ]

BMI

I’m a firm believer that the BMI Index is a load of hooey.  There are so many factors that go into it that there’s no way a person’s BMI can give an accurate view of a person’s health.  A man could be short and really well muscled/toned and be considered obese. I am, however, seriously disturbed by the fact that I’ve lost almost 150 pounds and am still considered obese by the medical community.  Granted, I weighed a lot when I started. I do, however, only have about six pounds to go until I am considered merely overweight, but it’s still pretty [ ... ]

Weigh-In 1/15/08

After gaining 0.7 lb over Christmas and losing only 0.2 lb last week (after being out of town visiting friends), I was extremely happy to see a loss of 3.9 lbs on the scale today!  I’m at -149.7!  Only 0.3 to go until I’ve lost 150 lbs!

More About The Bucket List

In doing some more thinking about the movie, “The Bucket List,” and how it applies to my own life, it made me think of all of the things I’ve avoided doing or trying in my life because of my weight.  The fear of using too much money and not saving for a rainy day weren’t the only things holding me back. There are so many situations I avoided or turned down because I felt uncomfortable with who I was and how I looked.  I avoided just about any new situation that had the potential for embarrassment, any situation in which I [ ... ]
