A Weekend of Self-Sabotage

Well, guys, I completely and utterly blew this weekend to smithereens.  I know I’ve said before that I’ve had some bad weeks, but this one was absolutely the worst that I’ve had since I joined Weight Watchers almost two years ago.  I peeked today and am up 3 pounds, so we’ll see what the scale says tomorrow on my official weigh-in day. I have to admit that it frightened me quite a bit, because I really saw myself falling into old eating patterns.  It was almost like an out-of-body experience, watching myself doing it without being able to stop myself.  It really proved [ ... ]

Punishment?

I broke down and went to Olive Garden with my mom today.  I haven’t been there in over two years and I decided to get my old favorite, the Garlic Herb Chicken con Broccoli.  Yum.  Uh, yeah.  At least that’s how I remembered it. We get there and get to our table with no problem.  The hostess leaves before we are seated, and I throw my coat over the back of the chair next to me (we’re at a table for four).  I then reach down and grab the back of the seat to pull the chair out and it is [ ... ]

Work Temptations

Normally, I have no problems sticking to my plan while I’m at work.  It’s always been at home that I’ve struggled.  It is probably because I have less access to food while at work. This week, however, my real difficulties have been in the workplace.  Periodically, my company will cater in a lunch meal to thank us for our hard work, and for the last couple of years, I’ve not allowed myself to participate.  I decided this time I was going to take advantage of it like everybody else can.  So, I had small servings of meat lasagna, vegetable lasagna, and chicken fettuccini [ ... ]

Weigh-In 3/25/08

Well, even with my slip up on Easter Sunday, I lost 1.3 pounds this week.  I don’t get it.  Based on recent history, I’m expecting to gain about that much next week.  We’ll see.

What happened to spring?

You may remember me requesting spring to appear pronto a few weeks ago, but this isn’t quite what I had in mind.  Three days ago, it was 17 degrees.  The following day was 45, the next 65 and then today was 75.  Um yeah.  What happened to spring?  I have to keep in mind that they’re calling for a possibility of snow here on Easter Sunday.  Craziness. Can’t there be a happy medium somewhere?  A few weeks of 50s and 60s and gradually inching it’s way up into the 70s and 80s?  And they say there’s no such thing as global warming.  [ ... ]

Biggest Loser 3/18/08

WARNING  ***SPOILERS*** I might be a bit biased since I’ve been rooting for Brittany, but they’re idiots.  They’re all idiots!  I shouldn’t be all that surprised that the Blue Team Boys Club (BTBC) decided to vote her out, but at some point they’re going to have to become a bit cannibalistic.  I mean, the last I heard, they all came to win.  Wouldn’t the smart thing (at this point with so few people left) have been to vote out the biggest threat?  Ah well.  I was obviously sad to see her go, but she looks amazing. Now that my little rant is over, [ ... ]

Exercise Report 3/18/08

Well, I said that I would get my butt back into gear as far as exercise is concerned, and I actually stuck to my word!  For today anyway.  I just got done walking for 45 minutes and I feel pretty good.  Hopefully I’ll be able to keep working it in the rest of the week.

Weigh-In 3/18/08

All right.  That’s it.  I quit.  Okay, not really, but I am getting pretty darn frustrated here.  After yet another week of sticking to the plan and doing what I’m supposed to, the scale showed a gain of 1.4 pounds today.  Argh. I’ve been keeping an Excel spreadsheet ever since I started Weight Watchers that tracks and graphs out my weight, losses/gains, how much I need to lose, my BMI, leftover flex points, goals (and pounds needed to be lost to meet them), activity points, measurements, etc.  Yeah, I know I’m showing my geekiness here, but it’s pretty darn cool if I [ ... ]

No Pudge Brownies

I just got done making a batch of No Pudge chocolate brownies.  Yum!  These have been on my list of favorite foods for a while now.  Not only are they extremely thick and fudgy, they’re also completely fat-free!  Now if I can only keep myself from devouring the entire pan! A single box makes 12 large brownies at 2 points each, and the only other ingredient you need to add is fat-free vanilla yogurt.  One of the coolest things about this brownie mix is that not only can you use the entire box to make a batch of 12 brownies, it also contains instructions on [ ... ]

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

I just finished watching the movie, “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.”  What a simply stunning movie!  While I thought that the ending was a bit abrupt, the rest of the movie was magical enough to remind me of the imagination and wonder of my childhood.  It’s so sad that as we grow up we tend to lose sight of our creativity and our faith in all things impossible. There are a lot of little things that I thought made the movie, such as a perfect expression at just the right time, but there is one scene in particular that really struck a [ ... ]

Harry Potter Movie News

I’ll admit it.  I’m a complete sci fi/fantasy geek and an avid reader.  I love the Harry Potter book series (typically read each book in a single day), but have not been so overwhelmed by the movies.  I’ve felt that in an interest of cutting down on the length of the movies, they really weren’t able to take advantage of the beauty of the books.  They cut too much, often leaving out the best parts or what I felt were the most important parts.  I have also felt that because there are so many Harry Potter fans and because those who [ ... ]

Mid-Life Crisis?

I’m only 30, but apparently according to an online questionnaire I just took I’m heading towards a mid-life crisis (indicated by 8 out of 10 questions).  I wonder if this means I’ll get to buy a new car and do all of the other crazy fun things people seem to do when they have one.

Biggest Loser 3/11/08

WARNING  ***SPOILERS*** As usual, tonight’s episode was emotionally heart-wrenching.  I was deeply disappointed that Bernie didn’t make it back onto the show.  He was so close!  I’ve got my fingers crossed for him, though, for the finale.  I know he’s going to do great.  I have to add here that I still love Trent, too! One thing I love about this show is that it can bring both tears and laughter.  A couple of my favorite comments tonight were from Dan (when he was talking about how great he is at creating joules and then admitting that he really didn’t have a clue [ ... ]

Weigh-In 3/11/08

WHOOHOO!  I lost 1.7 pounds this week!  I’m not quite back to where I was before I started gaining (need to lose 0.7 lbs more to get to where I was), but I’m exactly one pound away from having lost 150 pounds.  Let me tell you, there will be a celebration at my house on that day, as well as an update to the Blue Shirt Comparison picture.  Maybe next week?  I’m afraid to be too hopeful, though.  For today, I’m pretty darn happy. I think that has been part of my problem.  The novelty of the weight loss had worn off [ ... ]

A Grocery Expedition

Since I’ve changed my eating habits, grocery shopping has become somewhat of an expedition, or scavenger hunt.  It can get pretty frustrating. There are particular items that I love or eat regularly.  Sadly, there are no stores that sell ALL of the items I’m looking for. For example, a typical grocery shopping trip for me involves anywhere from 2-3 different stores.  Store A may stock Items 1 and 3, but not Item 2.  Store B may stock Items 2 and 3, but not Item 1.  And then, I get to Store A or B and they’re out of Item 3, so insert [ ... ]
