So I kept seeing Extra sugar-free gum being flashed every time anyone turned around on The Biggest Loser, so I thought maybe chewing gum might help stave off some of these crazy little binges I’ve been going on lately. I started off trying Extra, but wasn’t all that satisfied with it, so I decided to try Trident.
I used to always chew Eclipse or Stride, but wanted to try some fruity flavors for a change.
A piece of Extra sugar-free gum contains 5 calories. It comes in the typical stick-style gum, with 15 sticks per package. I have tried the Berry and the Apple flavors. Both flavors were good, however the flavor did not seem to last very long. Also, the longer I chewed these sticks, the grainier and grainier it felt in my mouth – almost like it was falling apart. In fact, I even ended up swallowing small pieces of it by accident after chewing it for a long time.
A piece of Trident sugar-free gum contains only 3 1/2 calories. The sticks are a great deal shorter, but thicker, and come with 18 sticks in a package. I have tried the Tropical Twist (kind of orangey) and the Wild Blueberry Twist flavors and liked both, although the Tropical Twist is my favorite. This gum feels sturdier in my mouth, and no matter how long I chew it, it never falls apart. The flavor also seems to last a great deal longer than the flavor in the Extra gum did. It also contains Xylitol, which supposedly helps fight cavities. If you’re interested in such things, it is also much easier to blow and pop bubbles with Trident.
Trident wins in my book! I don’t care how much they flash Extra on The Biggest Loser. I’m sticking with Trident for now.
