My biggest weakness since birth has been books. Books of any shape, any size, any subject matter.
So you can imagine that when you get me in a bookstore, it’s likely that you won’t see me again for quite a while. My mom threatened to leave me at the library often as a child. Hmm…that could explain any fear of abandonment. Anyway, hitting the bookstore has pretty much become an every Saturday event for me.
This Saturday, it was a dangerous situation. I went in with the intention of purchasing exactly two books. That’s it. I knew their names and everything. But if I knew myself better, I would have known that there was no chance in hell of actually walking out without only two books. Especially when they place the clearance items right inside the door.
I can usually pass them by pretty easily, maybe only grabbing one or two on the way. However, this Saturday was an exception. Their clearance was 50% off! Yeah, I’m not sure how many books I ended up leaving with, but it was quite a few. Granted, most of them were only $1.99. That still adds up!
And so, my stack of unread books keeps growing. I wish I could live forever just so that I could read all of the books I want.
I love the way bookstores smell. I get lost as well. My worst nightmare is that twillight zone episode where the is a lone survivor with all the time in the world to read but breaks his glasses.
Girl, I am so with you on this one. That’s why I’m so glad that I have to drive an hour to the city to get to the closest one! For me, it’s strictly the library – free and closer! ;o)
