Learning To Live After Losing A Person

Wii Fit

May 22nd, 2008 by Pamela

I have loudly proclaimed my love of everything Wii since I got mine several weeks ago.  Even though I’ve had it for a while now, I’m still fascinated by the technology that went into it.  The only games I currently have (and I’m probably showing what a geek I am) are:

  • Wii Sports (have the shoulder injury to prove it),
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,
  • Shrek The Third (haven’t tried this one yet),
  • Super Mario Galaxy (am thoroughly addicted),
  • Game Party (not quite enjoyable), and
  • Elebits (rather annoying).

I’ve recently been eyeing the Endless Ocean game, but have been waiting in the hopes that the price will go down sometime in the next century.  Prices on video games are insane, aren’t they??

However, I added to my rather meager collection yesterday with a diamond in the form of the Wii Fit.  I pre-ordered mine on Amazon and avoided any long lines.  In fact, even the UPS truck came earlier than usual.

I started playing with it when I got home from work yesterday and the time just flew.  Before I knew it, I had done about 40 minutes of what I consider low-impact exercise without even realizing that much time had passed.

Not only can you do different yoga poses and strength training, there are so many fun games on it.   The categories it has are:

  • Yoga,
  • Strength Training,
  • Aerobics,
  • Balance Games.

I tried some of the yoga and strength training exercises, and all of the aerobics ones that were available to me.  There’s even one where you jog in place that you don’ t even need the balance board for.  One of the fun things about it is that not all of the possible games are available right away.  As you exercise, you get time credits, and after accumulating a certain amount, more games become unlocked.

The balance games are a lot of fun.  There are different ones like skiing between flagged gates, ski jump, tightrope, and all kinds of other games.

It will also track your weight and BMI.  I found myself growing particularly fond of it right away when it weighed me as being 4 pounds less than my scale says I weigh.  :o)

The only downside I had was that a few hours after I finished using it, I developed cramps in both of my feet (around the toe area).  I’m sure this was more a reflection of my lack of use of those muscles than of the Wii Fit, and hopefully it will stop the more I use it.

Needless to say, at this point I highly recommend getting yourself one!  I had a blast!
