Uncovering Pamela
Learning To Live After Losing A Person

Weekend Reading

June 3rd, 2008 by Pamela

I’ve mentioned my book obsession before.  I love books.  Books of any kind, any shape, any size, any subject matter.  Any book, period.  If someone handed me a book, it would be as though they were handing me a bottle of water, or air, or anything else I would need to live.  Okay, I do tend to exaggerate, but you get the idea.

I read three books over the weekend.  I know, I know.  I need to get a life.  I did enjoy it, though, and thought I would share them with you.

The first book I read was “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen.  I had my doubts about this one and pretty much only picked it up because of all of the rave reviews and because of how many people I saw with it.  I was extremely, and pleasantly, surprised.  I actually started this book Thursday night before I went to bed and practically devoured it all in one sitting.  I think I finished all but maybe 30 pages in that one night.  I finished it Friday night after work.  The book is extremely interesting (and a bit disturbing) and jumps back and forth between the main character’s life with a circus train and his current life as an old man in a nursing home.  A fabulous read.

The second book I read was “The Host” by Stephenie Meyer.  This book was written by the fantastic author of the Twilight series.  I’ve read the entire Twilight series and really enjoyed it (although I did want to smack the main character at times) and am looking forward to the movie that’s coming out in December.  The Twilight series is a young adult series and “The Host” is her first book for adults.  I think it is far and away better than the Twilight books and has been added to my list of favorite books.  In fact, days later, I still find myself thinking about this book.  I was extremely sad to see the characters go when I finished it.  The book is over 600 pages, but by starting it Friday night, I had it finished by Sunday morning.  I’ll let you go to the link above to see what it’s all about.  I pray that Stephenie Meyer decides to write a sequel.

The third book was called “Turn Me On” by Cherie Jeffrey.  If you are just looking for a very fast, fun, chick lit-type read, then this is it.  Check out the link for more info.  This one I finished on Sunday, too.

If you ever come across a great book you’d like to share, drop me a line!  I’m always looking for good books to read!

Happy reading!
