Happy (Belated) Father’s Day
I want to send out a belated “Happy Father’s Day!” to any fathers out there. I hope you had a really special day.
My dad and I have had an interesting relationship. When I was growing up, we fought all of the time. I think I can finally admit that my mom was right in that he and I are just too much alike. We are both incredibly stubborn, incredibly sure that we are right, and absolutely insistent that we each get the last word. That’s a hard basis for creating peace in a household. Especially when you add in the teen years. As I’ve gotten older, we still have our roaring arguments and disagreements, but they come fewer and farther between. And it’s sad to say, but I believe that my brother’s death brought all three of us closer together. Perhaps we realized that some arguments just aren’t worth it.
I bought my dad a book, and chipped in with my mom and got him a really great MP3 player that he’s been playing with all day. It seems he likes it.
My WW plan kind of took a nosedive today, though. So much for staying on plan for two weeks, huh? It started when my dad decided that he wanted barbecue for lunch. We ordered take out from Jack Stack Barbecue (yum). For the past two years, every time I’ve gotten Jack Stack, I’ve gotten their grilled chicken salad with fat free raspberry vinaigrette (on the side, of course). I hate dressing, but this dressing is simply delicious - the salad’s not too bad, either. However, today I decided that I wanted a sandwich and fries, dammit, and a sandwich and fries is what I got.
So while I didn’t really have a binge (I did have a couple of chocolate chip cookies, too), I am sure that I am WAY over my points for the day and probably the week. But I’m finding that I’m not caring all that much right now. I enjoyed it and hey, there’s always next week. I also just got done working out for about 90 minutes.
I’m sad that the weekend is over. It has gotten to the point where I look forward to each weekend as though I were looking forward to a mini-vacation. I guess that in a way they are.
