*Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting*
Yes, I’ve had that song stuck in my head since I went and saw Kung Fu Panda Yesterday. I only have one thing to say about it:
Freaking. Awesome. Movie.
Oh my God, I laughed until I almost cried. Maybe it doesn’t take much to make me laugh or maybe I’m still a kid inside, or maybe both, but I thought this was one of the greatest movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s amazing that I enjoyed it so much, because I’ve been looking forward to seeing it ever since I saw the first preview 6+ months ago, so my expectations had to have been really high. I thought it was priceless, though, and so many of the scenes and how it was put together were just perfect. I want to see it again.
There is this one scene in it where the main character, an overweight panda, leaps to the top of some kitchen cabinets and performs the perfect splits to balance himself and get to a jar of cookies. I had to laugh and think to myself, “that would so be me.”
Do you guys have those Redbox video terminals at the stores near you? They’re fantastic! They’re the machines where you can rent movies for a dollar a day. I’ve been wanting to see Enchanted, so I rented that last weekend. Fantastic movie! But then, I’m an absolute sucker for those cheesy love stories. Last night, I got Larry the Cable Guy’s Witless Protection. Pretty funny, but not quite as good as his Health Inspector movie. I know, it’s a little scary that I somewhat like those movies - they aren’t typical of what I usually enjoy.
I also picked up the latest Codex Alera book by Jim Butcher yesterday, called “Captain’s Fury.” (I had two coupons, Shawna!) I got so sucked into it yesterday that I’ve already read 200+ pages of it. When I went to his book signing in April, he said that he wrote the first book on a challenge. He was challenged to write a book based on the ideas of Pokemon and a lost Roman legion. Whatever the challenge was, it worked! What I like is that while the main character/hero male, there are also a couple of really strong female characters in his stories. He flawlessly weaves fantasy, military/political action, and love together. The first book in the series is called “The Furies of Calderon.” If you like to read fantasy, you should check out the links.

Great review for Kung Fu Panda. My husband has been begging me to see it. Usually I borrow a niece or nephew to see the animated movies, but they’re busy this weekend. Maybe we’ll just go without them.
I actually picked up that Larry the Cable Guy movie last weekend and thought about renting it but put it back. Maybe I’ll have to reconsider. I rented Bucket List instead and we loved it.
