Pearls Before Swine 6/17/08

Every once in a while I find a gem in the comics section.  This one from Tuesday’s paper had me seriously cracking up: (click on thumbnail for full-size)

Dinner Revisions

I’ve posted previously (multiple times) about my revulsion of the new Archer Farms Fruit Strips and how I have a limited amount of the older (good) ones left.  Well, my stash is dwindling, so I’ve been contemplating how I’m going to switch up my lunches for work. I know it’s not the best thing in the world, but this has been my daily work lunch: Hamburger Helper Cheesy Beef Taco Packet (4 points) Curves 90 calorie butter popcorn bag (1 point) 2 Archer Farms Fruit Strips (1.5 points) Total:  6.5 points I’ve eaten this practically every day for a year or more.  Now that Archer Farms [ ... ]

Weigh-In 6/17/08

Whoohoo!  For the second week in a row, I lost exactly 2.3 pounds.  How that’s possible, I’m not sure, but that’s what the scale said when I weighed-in today!  I might actually get out of this weight decade sometime this century! Either I didn’t do as much damage as I thought I did on Sunday, or it hasn’t caught up to me yet.  I prefer to believe that it is the first option. If I hadn’t been using it with my bare feet and letting others use it with their bare feet, I would bend down and kiss my Wii Fit.  Seriously. Total loss [ ... ]

The Unread Books Are Winning

As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m a sucker for books.  I have zero willpower where they’re concerned.  (If it’s possible, even less willpower than I have where food is concerned!) Because of this, and because of the multiple series that I’ve gotten sucked into, my stack of unread books just keeps growing and growing…and growing.  It’s like some kind of one-celled organism that just keep splitting and reproducing.  It’s out of control! I’m reading through them as fast as I can, but I just can’t keep up!  The people around me aren’t helping, either.  They keep giving me more books!  Which, of course, [ ... ]

Bring Back Winter, Please?

Beside the mere fact that I enjoy fall/winter better than spring/summer, I want winter to come back solely for the clothes that are available. I always imagined that as I lost weight, clothing shopping would become much easier and relatively painless.  It has become much easier in that I can actually buy things in a store and don’t have to shop online anymore.  It has not become painless, however, by any means. I recently posted briefly about my struggles with the extra skin that has plagued me due to my weight loss.  This extra skin was a certainty due to the amount of time I’ve [ ... ]

Happy (Belated) Father’s Day

I want to send out a belated “Happy Father’s Day!” to any fathers out there.  I hope you had a really special day. My dad and I have had an interesting relationship.  When I was growing up, we fought all of the time.  I think I can finally admit that my mom was right in that he and I are just too much alike.  We are both incredibly stubborn, incredibly sure that we are right, and absolutely insistent that we each get the last word.  That’s a hard basis for creating peace in a household.  Especially when you add in the [ ... ]

Righting a Wrong

A recent tragedy has been brought to my attention by my brilliantly talented BFF, Riley.  It seems that somehow I committed a massive oversight in not mentioning the fabulous Leslie Bibb when I raved about Iron Man.  I seek to remedy that horrific error. Leslie Bibb was lovely, incredible, and fantastic in Iron Man.  Her role, though way too short, was really great and I have to admit it was much more interesting than Gwyneth Paltrow’s role.  In fact, Gwyneth’s character was kind of a witch to Leslie’s character. The only possible way that I could have overlooked mentioning Leslie’s terrific performance could [ ... ]

Extra Skin

Yup, I said it.  Those dreaded words.  The words most feared by anyone who has a lot of weight to lose.  When I mentioned before that at times I feel like I’ve traded one set of problems for another, this is what I was talking about.  Extra skin. People often use the fear of extra skin as an excuse not to lose weight.  I myself used it, and now that I have lost a lot of weight, I see what a patently ridiculous excuse it is.  It is simply that.  An excuse. Don’t get me wrong.  I have a lot of it.  I [ ... ]

Oh so tired…

Warning:  The writer currently writing this blog may crash at any moment.  Prepare for it to end midsentence.    Okay, that probably won’t happen – I do tend towards the dramatic at times – but I am seriously oh so tired right now.  I wrote last weekend about how my sleep schedule is starting to get to me.  This week hasn’t been much help.  I got back to normal M-T of this week, but then I had to get up REALLY early for the dentist yesterday.  Luckily, it only took about an hour and a half and I was home in time [ ... ]

Kitchen Staples

Here is a list of items that I always keep in my kitchen and use on a regular basis (i.e., almost every day).  I don’t know what I’d do without them or how I would stay on plan! In no particular order: Fiber Gourmet pasta (I can’t possibly rave about this stuff enough.) Nacho Cheddar Kernel Season’s Mrs. Dash (My favorites are “Garlic and Herb”, and “Tomato, Basil, Garlic.”  Because of these, I’ve almost been able to cut out added salt completely.)

Weigh-In 6/10/08 “Goodbye Obesity”

Happy Tuesday! I’m flying high today!  I lost 2.3 pounds this week, for a grand total of 155.9 pounds lost!  I am only 34 pounds away from my WW goal weight. I’m only 0.2 less than I was four weeks ago, but I’ve made up for all of my recent gains and am at my lowest weight so far on this WW journey. I did great this week!  I earned 29 Activity Points and ate every single one of them.  I also ate 22.5 of my Flex Points (out of 35).  Obviously, that’s a fantastic advantage to working out – I get to eat more!  [ ... ]

For every good movie…

I went and saw Iron Man this morning.  What a fantastic movie!  I’ll admit that I wasn’t all that familiar with the story, as it’s one of the comics I’ve never read.  Pretty much what I knew about it came from the movie previews.  The movie was incredible!  I think it completely lives up to the rave reviews I’d been hearing.  Robert Downey, Jr. did an awesome job.  Or, at least I thought so in my uninformed opinion.  The technology in the movie was stunning.  I’m a complete sucker for new technology and have often wished that I could live well into [ ... ]

Two Year WW Anniversary

As of today, I have been on WW for two years!  I started on June 5, 2006.  I see that day as the day that I saved my own life.  It was the day I took my life into my own hands and stopped making excuses.  It was the day that I said enough is enough and I want to do something good for myself and not something to hurt myself. When I started Weight Watchers, I didn’t think I would make it past my first day.  In fact, I actually joined online in 2004, but never followed it and continued [ ... ]

Broke My Own Record Again

I posted earlier this evening about breaking my own record for the Advanced Step game on the Wii Fit.  I just got done working out (74 minutes!) and I broke my own record again! 646 points 310 Perfect steps 26 OK steps 0 Misses Whoohoo!  I know it may be nothing to some people, but I know I’m going to have a hard time beating this one.  I’m sure gonna try!

Lightning Scares the Crap Out of Me

I’m thanking God that I’m home from work now.  I hate lightning.  I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.  I always have and probably always will.  I love thunderstorms, but would love them so much more if they didn’t come along with lightning.  When I was little, I remember curling up in bed during a thunderstorm and just praying and praying that our house wouldn’t get hit by it. Even more than just lightning, I hate driving during strong lightning storms.  Of course the blinding rain and hydroplaning didn’t make my drive home tonight any more fun, but it [ ... ]
