Christmas in August

I’ve so been looking forward to August for a couple of reasons. Sucky July will be over (2 hours and 12 minutes and counting). Several books that I’ve been dying to read are finally coming out! It feels like Christmas! On August 1, the latest book by Garth Nix, Superior Saturday, will be hitting the shelves.  These books leave me saying “what the hell?” from time to time, but they’re thoroughly entertaining.  This is a young adult book. On August 2, the latest book in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga comes out.  It’s called Breaking Dawn.  I posted recently about her book, The [ ... ]

Next time I’ll just bleed to death

I made the mistake of going online to see if I could find out how much my recent doctors’ bills amount to. BIG mistake.  Big, Big, BIG mistake.  This brings to mind one of my favorite quotes.  It is from “Blood Rites” by Jim Butcher (in the greatest book series ever, The Dresden Files): Over the years I’ve learned that ignorance is more than just bliss. It’s freaking orgasmic ecstasy.  Maybe next time I’ll just risk bleeding to death. All included, the original dermatology visit/biopsy, the emergency room visit, and the follow-up dermatology visit equals just over $700.  And that’s assuming there aren’t any other hidden [ ... ]

Somebody scratch me…gently

Please!  Even a good rub will do! I posted a while back about a skin biopsy I had done that ended up needing to be cauterized at the hospital.  Well, I’ve kept a bandage on it up until the day before yesterday and it has now reached the “itchy” stage. Argh! It’s driving me insane! I’ve discovered heaven in the form of my shower, though.  The needles are just strong enough to alleviate some of the itching, but gentle enough (and without the inherent dangers found in using fingernails) not to hurt it.  Talk about pure bliss.  If I could, I would just [ ... ]

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I’ll admit it.  I adore Harry Potter.  I’ve devoured every book as quickly as possible, but have been less than thrilled with most of the movies. I am, however, one of those people that refuses to give up hope.  Each time, I hope for something spectacular, and somehow the times that I end up disappointed don’t make me lose hope for the next go-around. I just saw a preview for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the first time.  You can find it here.  It looks great, and I can’t wait for November!! It’s kind of funny how excited I get [ ... ]

Anyone have an oxygen tank?

You guessed it.  I just got doing the stairs.  Although, this time, it’s finally been proven that I’m a psycho. Here’s today’s play-by-play: I climbed from 13 to 24 (11 floors, 22 flights of stairs). I walked/ran down to 3 (21 floors, 42 flights of stairs). And then, to prove how insane I am: I climbed back up to 13 (10 floors, 20 flights of stairs). Total:  42 up and 42 down. If you have an oxygen tank that is currently not in use, please contact me immediately. That is all.

An open apology to Riley

I lied to you in January when I came to visit you.  I’m sorry.  It wasn’t intentional, just a spontaneous reaction to my embarrassment. We were standing in a grocery store and there was a People magazine on the stand next to us.  The headline proclaimed “Half Their Size.”  You asked if I had lost enough to be half my size, or something similar, and I lied.  “Yes” just kind of came out.  I was taken by surprise, and didn’t know what to say.  I guess I was too embarrassed to admit that I’d lost about 145 pounds and still wasn’t half [ ... ]

Weigh-In 7/29/08 (Driver’s License)

It was time to renew my driver’s license again last August and I had moved to a state where they post your weight on your Driver’s License!  Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking, but in all honesty, what in the world are they thinking? I mean, seriously? People gain and lose weight all of the time.  And people lie.  It’s not like they have a scale right there in the DMV to weigh you as you register.  (Can you all join me in a “Hallelujah”?)  Ever since I first got my license at 16, my posted weight has [ ... ]

I thought I was gonna die and other fun stuff

I just did the stairs here at work for the first time in over a week.  I thought I was gonna die.  I honestly did.  For a moment, anyway.  My heart felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest and go plop right there on the stairs in front of me.  Now, isn’t that a pretty image? I made it, though! As far as the other fun stuff: My department works for the entire company – anyone can bring us work.  Well, almost anyone.  There is a man that used to bring us work fairly regularly – at least [ ... ]

Journey to the Center of the Earth – 3D

We did end up seeing Journey to the Center of the Earth yesterday and I loved it!  My mom thought it was “okay.” It’s the typical summer action flick, but there were parts that I really thought were funny, and even a part that made me almost cry.  For some reason, that scene in the preview where Brendan Fraser screams “we’re still falling!” cracks me up every time I see it.  Maybe it doesn’t take much to amuse me. I really like the young actor that is in it, Josh Hutcherson.  I’ve liked him in just about everything I’ve seen him in. The [ ... ]

A Regular Size!!!!

Oh my God.  I’m so freaking excited!  In fact, I almost started crying in the middle of Wal-Mart yesterday afternoon. I posted a while back about being afraid to try on clothes in the “regular” size department.  I’ve been shopping in the plus sizes since, well, elementary school, I think.  So I think it’s a bit understandable.  But yesterday, I said what the hell. It was only a suit-type jacket and I almost didn’t try it on, because I didn’t feel like going to a dressing room.  I was shopping with my mom, and suggested trying it on right there out in the [ ... ]

Finding My Equilibrium

My butt is back in gear (for tonight anyway). I stated earlier that I was determined to exercise when I got home tonight, and surprisingly, that is exactly what I did.  I did 50 minutes of aerobic exercise on my Wii and will do some strength training here in a bit.  As soon as I finish Equilibrium. My parents and I had a Christian Bale fest over the weekend.  Okay, not really.  We just watched a Biography on Christian Bale and then we watched The Prestige.  But during this time, I pulled out Equilibrium – my favorite Bale movie next to Newsies.  [ ... ]

All Mixed Up

I’m a complete mixed bag of nuts, er, emotions this evening. I’m glad work has slowed down somewhat for the evening – not as many people bugging us. I’m thrilled that tomorrow is Friday. I’m excited about the possibility of seeing some good friends in a few weeks. I’m concerned about weigh-in next week since I’ve been slacking on the exercise this week. I’m determined to exercise when I get home from work. I’m feeling sick from antibiotics (four more days). I’m sad that it’s still okay to make fun of overweight people (more later). I’m proud of myself for what I’ve accomplished. I’m happy with where I’m at health-wise, even [ ... ]

August Rush

At the complete opposite end of the spectrum from yesterday’s movie review is another movie that I watched last night entitled “August Rush.”  This movie stars Keri Russell, Freddie Highmore, Robin Williams, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers and is simply adorable.  The proof is in the fact that I adored it.    I’ve never been overly impressed by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, but I fell in love with him in this movie.  The accent didn’t hurt. If you happen to be a sucker for magical, romantic, and sweet (and slightly cheesy) movies like I do, then I highly recommend [ ... ]

Sweeney Todd

Have any of you seen Johnny Depp’s Sweeney Todd or the stage musical?  I’ve never seen the musical, but just finished the movie.  The music and singing were beautiful!  The actor who played the kid completely blew me away. However. My god, what a seriously disturbing movie!

Ack! – Sheridan’s

I don’t know what my deal is, but today I am ravenous!  I’m not talking of a situation in which I just feel like I want to eat a lot, I’m talking about gnawing, bottomless-pit, literal hunger pains.  So far, I’ve confined myself to an extra banana and yogurt, without going to town on anything else, but what do I find when I get to work? Today was sundae day!  They catered in Sheridan’s custard for the entire company, and saved us each a cup of it (with chocolate syrup and strawberries) in our freezer.  How do I avoid the temptation?  AHHH! To be honest, [ ... ]
