Weigh-In 7/1/08
Well, this is a first for me. I weighed-in at exactly the same weight as I did last week. Down to the same tenth of a pound. It’s crazy. So my loss/gain for the week is 0.0, but it’s better than gaining! I’m blaming it on the stairclimbing and other added strength training I’ve been doing this past week. I decided it was time to amp things up.
However, I’m noticing a disturbing trend. If you look at my Progress Chart, and look and compare from week 98 down and then from week 105 down, you might notice the disturbing pattern that I am starting to notice. Two 2 pound losses in a row, then two maintains, and it’s now my mission to keep that from becoming another three pound gain next week. But, if you’ll also notice, I lost track of my flex points from week 102 to 104. I’m going to try to break that pattern, as well.
So this week is all about breaking the pattern.
I took a break from the Wii Fit on Sunday and Monday, however, I did climb the steps at work both last night and tonight. On both days, I climbed from the 13th floor to the 24th floor and then back down to the 3rd (as far as I can go). I then rode the elevator back up, of course.
I timed myself tonight and it only took me five minutes to reach the top, and that was with stopping a couple of times (just for a few seconds) to catch my breath. There are 24 steps (not counting landings) per floor. So that’s about 264 steps at 52 steps a minute. Not too shabby, I don’t think. Overall, to get up and back down, it took about 12 minutes (total 504 steps, at 42 steps per minute, assuming I’m not way off on my calculations).
I become completely out of breath going up, but it’s my legs that feel it the most when I’m coming back down. I do feel a sense of accomplishment when I’m done, though. Especially when I realize that I’m done and haven’t yet suffered a heart attack.

Thanks, Carlos! They’re still pretty scary to me, too - like when I’m halfway up and gasping for air, or when I’m coming down and am terrified I’m going to trip and fall and crack my head open.

Pamela - when I go down stairs I have a fear of falling on my face and knocking out a front tooth. I think that every single time. Makes it sort of hard to run down the stairs. So far, so good…still have all my teeth. Good job on keeping up with the stairs.
