Learning To Live After Losing A Person

Weigh-In 7/8/08

July 9th, 2008 by Pamela

Before we get to the good stuff, I have to first apologize for being MIA over the past several days.  I don’t have any excuse other than lethargy and a crazy schedule.  If I owe you an e-mail (you all know who you are), I promise I haven’t forgotten!  I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, and I hope to have you written back by Thursday.

I had a pretty good weekend.  I feel like I got enough sleep, but the switch in my schedule sunk me into a practically comatose state.  Lethargic is the only way to really describe it.  These weekend switches in schedule are about to do me in.  I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet and just start sleeping in a bit more on the weekends.  I might have less of the daylight hours to enjoy on my days off, but I’ll probably get to enjoy the ones I do have a bit more.

I also had to be up early today for an eye appointment ($100 for him to tell me that my eyes are perfectly healthy and that I have the exact same prescription as last year), and tomorrow I have to be up WAY early for a dentist appointment - got to have a cavity filled.  My appointment is at 8, so I’ll have to be up by 6:30.  And why yes, it is now midnight and I just got off work.  So, I won’t be getting much sleep tonight! Hopefully it won’t take too long and I’ll be able to get back to bed fairly quickly tomorrow (pain allowing).  I don’t know what the hell I was thinking when I agreed to an 8 am appointment.

Okay, on to the good stuff!  I lost 2.3 pounds this week!  WHOOOHOOO! I broke the pattern!  I find it interesting, though, that in the last three weeks in which I’ve lost, I’ve lost exactly 2.3 pounds each week.  2.3 must be my lucky number.  As I mentioned above, I did have to weigh in about two and a half hours early today, so who knows how that affected my weigh-in.  I’m happy, though, because that means I’ve officially lost 160.1 pounds!  Yippee!  For some reason, that just seems like an insane amount of weight to me.  158, sure no problem, but 160??  It’s crazy the tricks our minds play on us.  This means that I have less than 30 pounds to go.  I’m pretty proud of myself.  I’ve learned along the way, though, to celebrate my losses while keeping my eye on next week.  We all know that those nasty weigh-ins can sneak up on you.

There’s a game that they like to play on the Weight Watchers’ boards in which you go to Google.com and enter “weighs [insert number of pounds lost] pounds” (with the quotes).  It’s a fun way to give you a reference point of comparison about how much weight you’ve lost.  The last time I did it, I got an elliptical machine.  Sadly, all I get anymore are people!  But that in and of itself says something, I think.  I guess it’s official that I’ve lost a whole other person.

If you want a gross comparison, 160 pounds is equal to 640 sticks of butter.

Hey now, I use dental floss regularly - although handouts are always welcome! :P

A normal schedule might be nice, but then I’d have to deal with more people and more stress. I guess it’s a trade-off.

Thank you, Carlos! You’re the best!
