Learning To Live After Losing A Person

A Regular Size!!!!

July 27th, 2008 by Pamela

Oh my God.  I’m so freaking excited!  In fact, I almost started crying in the middle of Wal-Mart yesterday afternoon.

I posted a while back about being afraid to try on clothes in the “regular” size department.  I’ve been shopping in the plus sizes since, well, elementary school, I think.  So I think it’s a bit understandable.  But yesterday, I said what the hell.

It was only a suit-type jacket and I almost didn’t try it on, because I didn’t feel like going to a dressing room.  I was shopping with my mom, and suggested trying it on right there out in the open.  I looked at her like she was nuts.  People would laugh at me!  “Look at that silly girl trying on clothes that are obviously entirely too small for her!  She must be hallucinating!”

But, I really wanted to know.  So, I looked around and put on one of the jackets in the largest regular size I could find, as fast as I could, still thinking that some employee was going to come running.  ”No, wait, you’ll rip it!”  No one did, of course.  And……

IT FIT!  However…

I thought it fit nicely through the sleeves, back, and waist, but it seemed to bunch a bit on the front of my shoulders.

My mom’s reply - try the next size down.  I looked at her and laughed.  Yeah right.  But I did…sure that I wouldn’t even be able to get it up over my huge arms.  And……

IT FIT!!!!! As I said earlier…..oh my God.  It fit so much better than the larger size!  I was stunned.  And this was the point at which I almost started crying.

It was a suit jacket, so it was a bit more structured and not anything clingy, so it looked decent.  But the fact is that not only did I fit into a regular size piece of clothing, but I didn’t need the largest size!

Words can’t express how happy I am at this moment in time.

Pamela - that is very cool! I’m so happy for you. I knew you were wearing clothes too big for you when you said you still shopped in the plus size section. We’re almost the same size and I haven’t shopped there for a couple months.

Clothes that are too big on you make you look bigger. I thought that might be part of why you makes comments about your size that you’re still big, and comments about the “rolls of fat”.

I’m telling you, your mind still hasn’t caught up to the new you. You’re a beautiful woman and wearing a regular size, and not the biggest regular size either. You need to accept the new you. :)

    Amazing NSV!

Thanks, Diana! You’re so sweet! But you’re also right - that my mind hasn’t caught up with where I’m at physically. Unfortunately, I think that’s going to take some time.

Though, I guess I should be more specific when I mention my rolls of fat. :) I really mean rolls of extra skin. Equally horrifying, though. :)

    Thanks again!! You’re the best!

That must have been so exciting! I can definitely relate to both yours and Diana’s feelings on this subject. I just can’t wait until it’s my turn because like you, I’ve never shopped in the regular department for myself either! And just think, Walmart clothes runs on the small side. You probably could have fit a medium in a Department Store. You go girl!
