One Pound of Fat

I’ve seen this poem many times before, but it seemed especially appropriate since I only lost 0.9 pounds this week.  The author is unknown. Hello, do you know me? If you don’t, you should. I’m a pound of fat, And I’m the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet. Want to know why? It’s because no one ever wants to lose me. I’m only one pound, just a pound! Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one. So I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to [ ... ]

Weigh-In 7/22/08

Can we all please take a vote and agree that July is going to be the crappiest month this year and it’s only going to get better after this?? Please? I’m having a truly sucky day.  Mostly just one of those days where every damn thing that could go wrong has gone wrong.  Not the least of which is that I had my oil changed on Saturday (finally) and now it’s leaking something where it most definitely wasn’t before.  So now I get to go in tomorrow and get that checked out.  I so want to get back to my old [ ... ]

I dare myself

A pretty terrific guy recently posted a dare on his blog.  In fact, he pretty much dared us to dare ourselves. I did some thinking and tried to figure out the area of my weight loss journey that I have really been wanting to work on.  So here’s my dare to myself: I dare myself to eat breakfast every day for a week.  I’m notorious for never eating breakfast.  I’ve been that way my entire life.  I always believed it was just because I didn’t want to have to get up any earlier than I had to.  While this was a huge [ ... ]

A little bit of everything

Hi all!  I really hate Mondays.  I still have 14 hours until I have to be at work, but it’s just that knowing that it’s coming that gets me.  Ugh. I went to see The Dark Knight on Saturday and loved it!  It thought it was fantastic.  I’ve been a HUGE Christian Bale fan ever since I first saw Empire of the Sun on TV.  I was pretty young and it became one of my favorite movies pretty quickly.  I’ve since collected nearly all of his movies on video/DVD with a few rare, hard-to-find, exceptions.  My favorites are Newsies and Equilibrium. Oh and [ ... ]

I fought the Krispy Kreme and the Krispy Kreme won

Six points.  Six freaking points.  I knew it was six freaking points, and I still ate it!  I knew it was six freaking points, and that I had no points left for the day, and that I was running low on flex points this week, and I still ate it! My only excuse is that I’ve been craving a Krispy Kreme glazed donut for a really long time now.  And when someone leaves a box of six donuts in our department at work just for us and I’ve been craving one, well, my willpower just can’t stand up to that.  So I ate [ ... ]

Grrrrr

I needed gas on Monday – it was $4.06. I really needed gas on Tuesday (payday) – $4.16. I desperately needed gas on Wednesday – $4.16. I broke down and got gas on Wednesday, because the light came on – $4.16. Thursday morning, I go to get my dressing taking off – $4.11. Thursday afternoon, I drive to work – $4.09. Grrrrrrrrr.

Superb News

The dressing is off! My skin biopsy came back benign! Hallelujah!  I’m so relieved.  The results discovered that it was indeed an irritated dermatofibroma as my primary physician and the dermatology PA suspected.  I’ve been worrying about this thing ever since I discovered it almost 4 years ago, even though the doctors said they thought it was fine.  It’s just a relief to know for sure, you know?  They believe that it may have developed at the site of a spider bite.  Dammit, I always knew those spiders were evil!     Unfortunately, it was on my upper back where my clothes [ ... ]

Weigh-In 7/15/08

It’s a miracle!  Somehow, I actually lost 1.3 pounds this week!  Even with the huge Hunchback dressing on my back!  I was sure that I had gained, because every time that I peeked at the scale over the weekend, it would show me being up five or six pounds.  That’ll teach me to peek. I’m doing much, much better today.  I’m still exhausted, but my pain has subsided quite a bit.  Yesterday, I would have said that my pain was at a 7 on a 10-point scale, but today it’s more of a 1-2.  The cauterizing itself would have been more [ ... ]

Cross your collective fingers

I just got back from seeing a dermatologist and ended up having a biopsy done.  It was taken from a spot that I’ve had on my back for several years now.  My general physician is sure that it’s nothing to worry about and so was the dermatologist, but she thought that since it’s broken open and because I’ve had it for so long that it’s better to be safe than sorry.  So please keep your fingers crossed for me!  I know it’ll be okay, but the more luck being sent my way the better. Of course, as I write this, I [ ... ]

The Infamous Stairs From Hell

I did the stairs at my work 4 out of 5 days last week and thought I would take in my camera to show you these stairs from hell.  Since I take you guys with me every time I’m climbing those stairs, I thought you should see the place that may turn into my deathbed. As you can see from this picture, I’m already starting to wear a path in the steps.  This is a shinier version of me after making it to the 25th floor (the sign says, “Stairs:  Roof Access.” And this is [ ... ]

The Beginning of a New Day

My dad’s mom died when I was in the 9th grade from colon cancer.  I still miss her, as she was a wonderful woman.  Sadly, I didn’t get to see her as often as I would like because she lived in another state, but she was always nice to us and always accepting. Yesterday, when I went into my parents’ kitchen, there was this small frame sitting on the kitchen table.  I was immediately taken back to my days as an overweight, frumpy, pre-teen.  Okay, much hasn’t changed over the years, but it did bring back memories. You see, my [ ... ]

20 Healthiest Foods Under a $1

My friend, Shawna, sent me a link to this article: The 20 Healthiest Foods for Under $1 While I already get a great many of these in, I just can’t bring myself to do the sardines and coffee.  I’d be terrified to see what starting to include regular caffeine into my diet would do after having virtually none for over two years.  Yikes!  Thanks, Shawna!

Bodies Revealed

Yesterday, my grandma, my mom, and I went to see Bodies Revealed.  Bodies Revealed is one of those traveling exhibits that shows us the insides of real human bodies. There was a huge uproar about this exhibit when it first came to Kansas City, but as long as these bodies were donated to science by consent, I don’t see the problem.  It was fascinating.  I was afraid that it would make me physically sick to see the bodies and organs, as I can barely stand to watch those surgeries they show on TV, but there were only a couple [ ... ]

It’s Really Paying Off!

All of this added exercise is really paying off.  After reading Diana’s post about measurements, I realized that I hadn’t taken mine in almost exactly two months, so I decided to break out the old tape measure. In the past two months, I’ve lost about 1 inch to 1.5 inches off of various parts of my body (waist, hips, etc.), with the most being two inches from my upper arm! Yippee! Here are my total amounts of inches lost so far: While I’ll never forget what it felt like to be the size I was, I’ll admit it is hard for me to [ ... ]

What’s a little more debt?

Argh.  So, after a $100 eye doctor bill yesterday, a $220 dentist bill today, several more medical bills coming up (routine testing, new contacts, etc.), and various and sundry other bills that tend to all crop up at once, guess who broke down and just bought concert tickets?  That would be me.  To see New Kids On The Block.  Yes.  Let the laughter commence. They were HUGE when I was in sixth grade.  Along with every single other girl in my class, I adored them.  I think I even had the sheets at one point – in fact, they’re probably still [ ... ]
