Tips from the BL Trainers

Skye-Lynn was so generous as to send me a link to information on the recent Biggest Loser episode of Oprah since I missed it.  There was a link from there that contained a Q&A with Bob & Jillian.  Many of their tips are things that reinforce what I’ve learned over the past two years from the wonderful people I’ve met through Weight Watchers.  I found it very interesting and helpful, and I thought I would share! At one point, they discuss the need for taking a day or two off from exercise to heal and rest.  I immediately thought [ ... ]

Sometimes I do incredibly stupid things

It’s no wonder that I live in a constant state of fear of embarrassing myself, because sometimes I just do incredibly stupid things. My latest feat of stupidity occurred this evening when I was preparing my dinner at work.  The trashcans in our kitchen area are hidden under the countertops.  You pull on a handle, and they slide out.  I always cut my apple (my delicious, sweet Ambrosia apple) on the counter over the trash so that I can just drop the discarded pieces in the trash as I cut.  Easy, right? Obviously, my problem lies in the paying attention [ ... ]

Happy Halloween!

Hi everyone!  I just wanted to put out a quick note to wish you all a very happy (and safe) Halloween.  I also wanted to wish everyone luck in getting through the night unscathed by the candy bowl.  Luckily for me, I have to work tonight (did I really just say that?), so unless some cruel soul decides to fill the office with gooey little treats, then I should be okay.

About Fat Haters

I’ve posted often about the way overweight people are treated and how disgusting it can be. I just read a blog post that really struck my heart – and made my blood boil.  It wasn’t the blog post itself that made me angry (livid actually), it was in reading about the article the writer was explaining. Check it out here:  Fat Haters Many of the comments are heart-breaking, too.  Now I’m preparing my blood pressure to go off and read about Mr. Nugent’s sludge.

My Weekend Mission: Point Friendly Tuna/Pasta Salad

I’ve made a goal for myself this weekend.  Before starting Weight Watchers, one of my favorite foods was this tuna salad that my mom always made.  It contains those tiny, tiny pasta balls (ancini de pepe), tuna, Miracle Whip, and relish, and then it’s refrigerated so that it’s really cold.  YUM.  Of course, with the mayo and pasta, it’s not the most point friendly.  I’m sure that my serving sizes didn’t help the matter.  I LOVED this pasta.  Hence the fact that I haven’t dared to make it ever since. My mission this weekend is to make it point friendly and/or [ ... ]

Survival

I posted (well, vented) at the beginning of October about my health insurance company and their program to deduct $20 from our monthly premiums next year.  In order to get the deduction, we had to have a health risk appraisal done (blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, height, weight, etc.) and then fill out an online risk assessment.  The third requirement was to call a telephonic health coach (supposedly a registered nurse).  I’ve ranted several times about the whole thing, and I still don’t think it’s right.  It seems like an invasion of privacy to me, but for $20 a month I [ ... ]

Politics and Progress

First, I’ll get the polarizing stuff out of the way.  Quick – any right-leaners or republicans, look away for a moment, please.  If any of you have any tendency to slightly lean to the left politically, you have to check out this blog: Margaret and Helen:  Friends for 60 years and counting… It is freaking hilarious.  If you’re a democrat, anyway. Now on to part two, which is progress.  By that, I mean my progress.  I know it’s only day two, but my week is actually going pretty well so far.  I’ve stuck to my points (both days under my 5 [ ... ]

Book Reviews

The Sweet Far Thing turned out better than I had originally thought, Club Dead was amazing, and my really good friend Riley is a genius. I posted a little while ago that I was desperately trying to get through the book, “The Sweet Far Thing,” by Libba Bray.  At the time, I was only about a third of the way through and was having a hard time keeping with it and keeping my eyes open.  Fortunately for me, around about page 400 (of 832) it really started to pick up and all of the magic and [ ... ]

Biggest Loser 10/28/08

*****WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD *****    I find it so interesting that the majority of people that I’ve heard from have similar opinions about this season of The Biggest Loser.  I’ve mentioned before that I originally refused to watch the show, thinking that it was merely another new way to attempt to capitalize on and make fun of fat people.  Then I finally got around to watching an episode and I was hooked.  While their exercise regimen is completely unreasonable and incompatible with real life, there are a lot of great tips that get thrown out by the trainers.  It’s also wonderful to [ ... ]

An Irish Prayer

I’m currently in the middle of saying massive prayers for myself.  For the longest time, I’ve dreamed of going to Ireland and as it stands, I could honestly say that for the past few years it has been my biggest dream in life.  I have the chance to go with two very good friends in March.  They’ve been so kind as to invite me along on their adventure.  The added benefit is that they’ve already been once before. My only problem now is figuring out how to pay for it.  Luckily it’s several months away, so I have a bit of [ ... ]

Weigh-In 10/28/08 (Week 125)

My weigh-in was a success again today which is fantastic since it is my 125th week on Weight Watchers.  I lost 1.6 pounds, which puts me back past the -160 mark.  I’ve lost 160.2 pounds to be exact.  I’m still 3.6 pounds over my lowest weight on this journey, but just give me time and I’ll be back in VFT (virgin fat territory). One of my yummiest new meals is courtesy of those new Ziploc Zip ‘n Steam bags.  This is the first time I’ve tried them and I have to say that I’m really impressed.  I had some frozen tilapia, so I [ ... ]

Stair Victory

A while ago, I was posting often about climbing the stairs at work for exercise on breaks.  I haven’t posted about it in a while and there is a very simple reason for that.  I haven’t been doing it, due to my continuing fatigue issues. Tonight, I decided to give it another whirl.  I did my usual 11 floors (22 flights) up, but there was a difference this time. Normally, I have to stop for a second (usually literally only a second or two) to catch my breath after four flights.  I think part of my problem is that I seem to be physically [ ... ]

Pogo

Since it is now 5:06 a.m. and I am just now starting to contemplate dinner and bed, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that I won’t be getting up early today to work out.  I’d guess that that is pretty safe to say. This time, it’s Pogo.com’s fault.  Around 3:00 a.m., I thought about how I was really tired and would really like to go to bed so that I could get up early to work out (I swear, I did!), but I just wanted to finish one more challenge.  Just one more.  I was almost there. Normally, [ ... ]
