No, I haven’t been drinking, but if you’d met me on Saturday, you might have thought so. I think that that was the funniest part of the day for me. Well, it’s funny now. It wasn’t so incredibly funny at the time. I had the hiccups pretty much ALL day. It drove me insane. Hiccups for me are not an enjoyable experience, but are they really for anyone? Mine are alway incredibly loud and somewhat painful from the attempts at keeping them in. Usually, I can get them to go away if I calm down and slow my breathing, and/or use a tip that my brother gave me once, but sometimes I get so aggravated with having them, that it’s hard to get myself calmed down. Luckily, I didn’t make too big of a fool of myself on Saturday, but I had been hiccup-free for a couple of hours when we decided to go to Applebee’s after the rally. In fact, I had almost forgotten about them when I took my first bite. It went something like this:
- Swallow
- “Hic”
- “Dammit!”
Luckily I was able to take a sip of water and focus on my breathing and they went away, but there was always that feeling that if I made one wrong move, they’d be back. So I ate very slowly and really focused on how I was breathing and I made it out of the restaurant without humiliating myself.
By the way, if you haven’t tried the Garlic Herb Chicken on their Weight Watchers menu, I recommend it. Maybe I was just really hungry, but I thought it was yummy.
I’m feeling pretty good today. I had a great weekend, especially since I actually made it through the entire weekend on plan. I also peeked at the scale and what I saw was really encouraging, but I’ll wait to see what happens at my “official” weigh-in tomorrow before I share.
Now, I’m off to watch Heroes!

this post made me recall the old wives tale I LOVED as a kid…remember the ‘spoonful of sugar’ notion? that THAT would get rid of them?
I always had hiccups as a kid.
or pretended to.
Now THAT sounds like my kind of cure and like much more fun than my brother’s “cure.” His was just to fill your mouth with water and then swallow as you plug your ears. Sometimes it actually works, sometimes not. I like the idea of a spoonful of sugar better!
I used to get them a lot more than I do now – thank God!
Mmmmmmmmm that garlic chicken sounds devine! I know how you feel about the hiccups, especially the ones that hurt your chest, at least you didnt carry on to be the record breaker of hiccups, what is it? 68 years or someething! Now that really would be something! Good on you for getting over the weekend too, pretty much on plan, keep it up, and remember, I am watching you!
Sandra, it was yummy! Even the broccoli and potatoes that came with it seemed especially delicious that night. And the garlic herb glaze wasn’t extremely heavy, either. It was just the right amount to give it flavor.
Oh yeah! I’d heard about that person that had that record. I can’t imagine having the hiccups for a week, let alone 68 years. I bet they had great abs – maybe the hiccups could have been a good workout?
And thank you for your support! I’m about to go weigh in and find out how I did.
Hi Pamela!
I haven’t read in while, but just read your update about the Obama rally. How exciting! I too am rooting for him and praying we can elect him. I love your picture holding the sign. Your tee is awesome and you look marvelous!
Thank you Antoinette! The rally was a lot of fun and I’ve got my fingers crossed for the election. It’s nice to know that I haven’t alienated all of my readers by showing my support!
A teacher of mine suggested that when you have the hiccups, try spelling your name backwards. If you have an easy name, then do your first and last. I still use this technique today and it usually seems to work! Although these days, I do have to spell out my full first name, middle name and my maiden name. So far, I haven’t gotten to Young yet. I’m saving that one for a special occasion! lol
