We had a couple of incidents that restored my faith in people (of course, all of you wonderful people have already restored quite a bit of it). My mom told me about her evening handing out candy on Halloween and a situation in which she accidentally dropped one of those evil fun size candy bars on the ground. Apparently there were two children there, a boy and a girl, about the age of 10. Immediately they started scrambling for it and kind of arguing/fighting over it. The boy won and picked it up – of course, my mom would have given them each one or would have given the little girl another one to make it even, but he actually handed it back to her and said, “here, neither of us get it.” Then thanked her and walked on. Wow.
At Wal-Mart, we weren’t even at the end of the aisle quite yet and a young boy of about the same age held his cart back (his mom was letting him push the cart and had already walked on) and said, “please go ahead,” and offered to let us cut in in front of him. We were going the other way, so waved him on, but again, I was impressed.
THEN.
I was in the produce section of the grocery store and was standing at a display near the salad/fruit bar, picking out some apples. Which, hysterically, after spending much time bitching about the checkers who bruise my apples by throwing them down the counter, I proceeded to drop the entire bag of my carefully selected apples on the floor of the grocery store. Quick applesauce! I didn’t feel right about putting them back, so I bought them. Hopefully they’re not all mush. Of course, if I hadn’t been right in the middle of an open area, I probably would have snuck them back in, but all eyes were on me.
And I was the one that dropped them.
Anyway, that’s all beside the point and is just another example of my klutziness. The woman restocking the salad bar was replacing the stack of plastic containers. Not only did she drop a bunch of them on the floor, but she picked them right up and put them out on the stack. UGH!
Then we were at Sam’s club and we actually saw a woman open a package of paper plates, pull one out, put her fingers all over it, put it back in the bag, and then reseal the bag. Double UGH!
Is nothing safe?

Yeah there are, unfortunately, a lot of gross people out there…
But like you, I have faith in humanity and the goodness/kindness of *most* people. It’s always nice to see that people are raising their children to be polite and caring.
Our job is to be an example of “the goodness of humanity” because we never know when our actions on the street or in a grocery store will affect someone!
Be well
It’s so refreshing to hear that there are still some decent young ones out there today. Usually, they are just so rude it’s unbelievable. Trust me, I know. I have a teenager remember! lol
Ernest and I were talking about germs just the other day. He was freaking out by how many men do not wash their hands after using the bathroom. I told him he would outright die if he knew how many women didn’t wash either! Yuck!
Lyn, I completely agree with you about how important it is to set a good example! Especially in this world of video and cameras, you never know who is watching!
Skye-Lynn, I know! I was very reassured to see that there is obviously some good parenting still going on! As seen by your wonderful daughter, as well! I totally agree about people who don’t wash their hands after using the bathroom. Ugh!
