Uncovering Pamela
Learning To Live After Losing A Person

Civil Rights?

November 5th, 2008 by Pamela

While I was still floating on clouds from Obama’s win and drying my eyes from his acceptance speech, my friend Riley brought me back down to earth with this post that makes my heart ache.  Not only for my friends and family who may be affected by these votes, but also for the state of basic human decency in this country.  I still hold out hope for California.

Now, based on the vote tallies, I’m sure I’ll probably rile some people up with this post, but I hold very strong beliefs where these propositions/amendments are concerned and couldn’t let the opportunity pass without saying something.

I’m with you Pamela. I don’t understand how other people think it’s their right to say who people can love and who they can marry. Makes me crazy!

This is terrible. I also have a lot of friends affected by these biases, and it’s saddening, or perhaps, maddening. Maybe in a concession speech 100 years from now (hopefully not that long) someone (a democrat since (s)he’s conceding :P ) will talk about how far we’ve come in the fight rights of citizens of all sexualitys like the discussion of today are focused on race.

No worries, your blog is a place where you should be able to express your feelings.

While I am so proud and happy that we as a nation have voted in the first African-American president, I made it my duty as an Orthodox Christian to vote according to Christ’s teachings and the morals of the bible that I believe in.

McCain’s voting record with some things was closer to the moral values I hold to. I hope President Elect Obama will do good for our country that so many have died for.

I voted for marraige between a man and a woman only in California based on my beliefs. Even Obama said in the debates that marriage is defined as between a man and a woman. We as Orthodox Christians love all people, but believe that some things are right and wrong.

Ooops, sorry I went so long on that for just a comment. I will keep on the weight loss endeavor, and thanks for your udates on this hard journey of losing the weight and keeping it off.

Christina, I sincerely hope you’re right.

Jenny, I too consider myself a Christian and while I may not agree with some of your beliefs or your church’s interpretation of Christ’s teachings, I fully respect your right to your opinion and your beliefs. I think that’s one of the great things about this country! I enjoy hearing everyone’s opinion.

    PLEASE IGNORE MY LAST COMMENT!!!

Unfortunately, I misread the heading. California APPROVED THE BAN on Gay Marriages.

How sad! Stopping gay marriages will not stop two people from being together if they love one another.

And why shouldn’t they be able to have the same rights as a straight couple?

This frustrates me to no end. I guess America hasn’t changed that much after all.
