WARNING ***SPOILERS AHEAD***
***
I just got done watching the season premiere of The Biggest Loser and can tell that it’s going to be a good season. Having started at an extremely high weight myself, I am relieved to see so many larger-sized contestants, especially larger women. I will find it interesting to see how they respond to life on the ranch and will wonder if that is how I would have responded. My heart simply breaks for these people. They have so much more courage than I. I would never have been able to stand up there for critique the way they did. So, here are some things I was thinking as I watched the show:
I was completely with Daniel (the young guy on the orange team) when he discussed his immediate fear of being picked last for teams. My heart always sunk when it came time for that. At least the purple team got a fantastic prize for being picked last.
I have a couple of gripes that have carried through from past seasons.
- Why oh why is it necessary to have them weigh in either shirtless (men) or in sports bras (women)? I just don’t get it. There’s no point.
- I like Allison, but the way she announces each contestant’s weight still drives me up a freaking wall. It’s just her tone of voice.
I’ve also been a huge, huge, HUGE Bob supporter for the longest time, but he kind of irked me tonight, too. I thought the expressions on his face during the weigh-ins and some of his comments were a little over the top.
I like that they showed how weight loss surgery, while it works for many people, does not work for everyone and is not a quick, easy fix.
I was so amazed to see how much weight Jerry lost after he passed out on the first day!
I SO knew that the ones being sent home weren’t all going to be gone permanently. I was also about to write that I really didn’t like this twist, until that one girl (was she on the purple team?) mentioned how she thought it was great because of all of us out here who have to do it on our own. Hell, all of us out here are proof that it can be done at home! But I’ll be interested to see how it plays out. I will say I really wasn’t happy with Carla’s (silver team) attitude when she left and how she kind of threatened Joelle (I think that was her name) and said that it would be a test of their friendship.
I have a question about the cameras in their bedrooms. Are they on the walls like in Big Brother or are there actual people standing in there with them? From the footage, it almost looks handheld, but wouldn’t that suck?
I just realized that I began every paragraph in this post with “I.” Wow.
Anyone else watch? What’d ya think?

I watched it! My very first BL show that I watched the entire thing. Usually I start to watch it and get busy or catch the end, never the entire show. I loved it! Now I know why everyone talks about it all the time.
Bob bugged me too with his comments about how the high weighins. Like he just couldn’t believe it. Annoying.
But overall, great show. I can’t wait for the next one!
Whoohoo! Another convert! I’m glad you liked the show, Diana!
I know that their daily schedule and losses are completely unrealistic in the real world, but for me, it’s all about the emotions they go through.
I LOVE TBL..I’ve watched all but one season and the ‘special’ editions (ie., Military Wives). I think I’m going to like this season MUCH better than last. Hopefully we won’t see the drama and mean-spiritedness of last season. As far as Bob and Jillian’s reactions to the contestants, they both fairly new to this level of training. Before doing TBL I believe they have both spent much of their careers training celebrities, athletes and people just looking to get into shape. Also, remember there’s alot of editing going on, so those ‘looks’ may have not be actual reactions.
Hi Tonya! I missed the first several seasons on principle, because I thought that they were making fun of or just exploiting overweight people for entertainment – then I actually watched an episode.
I agree that I definitely think this season is going to be much better than last season, but then some of the crazy ones on last season almost seemed normal at the beginning. So we’ll see! I think you’re completely right about what you said regarding Bob and Jillian’s reactions and how they aren’t used to that level of training. Thanks!
I have way too much to say about this season to write it all here! lol Check out my blog for a full post.
I agree with you about the shirtless weigh-in’s. I mean really, what’s the point? Humiliation???
And I don’t care for Allison. I was sad to see Caroline go. I often wondered if they replaced her because of her weight. I felt she was better able to understand what it is to have a weight issue whereas Allison has no clue. And yes, her voice irritates me, too!
Regarding Bob – I use to like him. Until last season that is. That’s when he proved to me that he is all about game play. Jillian, I find, is more worried about the mental aspect and the long term results once they go home. Some of the decisions Bob made last season made me wonder if they get a bonus if their team member makes it to the final and wins. I really think he was the reason Amy C. did not vote Vicky off. Since then, I don’t care for him.
See, I told you I have way too much of an opinion on this subject ! LOL
I think the one we need to watch out for this season is Tara. I don’t trust her.
Totalllllly agree with you on everything on BL! And the way Jillian was like “this time these guys are….BIG” umm yea, it’s why they are HERE!
