I’ve posted often about Brené Brown and how much I admire her. She recently tagged all of her blog-writing readers to post 16 facts about themselves as she did. Before I get to my facts, I wanted to share this post that she wrote entitled “Weighing in on Oprah.”
Now, on to my 16 things!
- My body is still quite a bit more padded than I would like, but I have the boniest knees ever. I do my darnedest to never kneel because, well, OW! Shaving my legs around them is hell! My mom says I have my dad to thank for this. It’s true. I’ve seen his knees.
- You all know that I adore reading, but have I told you that I’ve never sold or gotten rid of a book in my life? Other than a college textbook, of course, and I even kept most of those. You can imagine the stacks of books that have built up around me over 31 years of life. I want the first book I sell to be one that I wrote. I’ve always dreamed of writing a book, but have come to the conclusion that I am a much better (more passionate) reader/audience than I am writer. I also used to love poetry and write it regularly (and terribly).
- I will probably post more about this another day, but I kind of have fickle obsessions. I tend to obsess over things – a new hobby, song, or movie, for example (not people!) – for a few months and then move on to something else. In thinking about it now, perhaps I’m just obsessed with something until I master it (like a skill) or learn as much about it as I think I want to? Occasionally, I’ll go back and revisit old obsessions.
- I hate doing things that I feel I have to do or am told to do. That’s when my real procrastination tendencies come out to play. What can I say, I’m a rebel in disguise.
- I’m still a kid at heart. I love stuffed animals, kids’ toys, cartoons, you name it.
- I often wish that more people in the world would read “Ms. Manners” or consider how their actions/words affect others.
- I am a big Christian Bale fan – all the way back to Empire of the Sun. In fact, two of my favorite movies are Newsies (I know almost all the lyrics, though I can’t sing on key to save my life) and Equilibrium.
- You all have probably figured out I’m a true science fiction/fantasy geek. I love it all – from magic and parapsychology to Star Trek. I was a huge HUGE Star Trek: The Next Generation fan in high school. I never reached the point of dressing up like my favorite characters, but I wouldn’t have said no if I’d been invited to go to a convention. Hell, that still sounds like fun. I hate the original series, though. The endless possibilities of new technology fascinate me. And I like to believe that magic could be possible.
- I can be extremely stubborn and impatient. But I am also always willing to look at things from other points of view. I’ve been told that I can play devil’s advocate a bit too much, but I just like to consider the possibilities (which makes it hell on making decisions).
- I collect white tigers (not real ones, of course).
- I never cease to be amazed by all of the wonders available in the world (big and small) – from a pretty flower to a new friend to an airplane and beyond.
- Seeing a spider (or other bug) in my house creeps me right the hell out.
- I can, on occasion, get really really silly.
- I have, at one time or another, wanted to do every profession known to man (or woman). Okay, maybe not every profession…but I’ve yet to settle on my dream job. See #3 above. In fact, I originally went to college to study Music Business. I wanted to work on the business side of the music industry. As further proof of number three, I switched my major to psychology after a year. At least that one stuck until I graduated.
- I often wish that I could think fast enough to have witty conversations like they did on Dead Like Me (IMDB page - the greatest show ever on television) (clip contains some adult language): Wonderfalls (IMDB Page). Here’s part of the first episode: note: if you’re wondering what kind of sense of humor I have or what kinds of things crack me up, watch either of those shows. Interesting that they were created by the same man. Also interesting that both shows were canceled well before their time. Speaking of TV shows that crack me up, no show has ever made me laugh harder than “Who’s Line Is It Anyway” (some adult topics in clip):
- I’ve often dreamed of living in a big old mansion or castle with lots of nooks and crannies to explore (and modern plumbing, of course).
Now that you all know a bit more about me and realize what a weirdo I am, hopefully you’ll still come visit me……..
And, as Brené did, I say that if you’re reading this and haven’t already done it, consider yourself tagged! Please leave a comment with a link for us to check you out, even if you’ve already done something similar! If you don’t have a blog to post it on, then feel free to leave your info in the comments! I’d love to learn more about you all!

What a great post – from a great idea. I may do the same thing – but there’s a bit of fear involved, isn’t there; almost too naked before the world. Odd though, I read your list and you sound so normal and so like others I know; my apprehension is that others may not feel that way if they read mine.
I look forward to your comments on my blog – always encouraging and supportive; I wish I were that diligent in my support of others. I know I look to you as a role model in the weight loss arena – you are a great example of overcoming issues and doing what needs to be done!
I love the idea for this post too. You and I have a lot in common. Maybe the biggest thing, I lost a person too. A huge fat girl. Sadly I found her again, which is what brings me to the blogosphere.
Other things we have in common are;
1. I’m fully padded
2. It was such a RIP-OFF selling textbooks back. I loved books too much to sell them back into a racket like that.
3. That is so me. I hope bogging isn’t an example of this.
4. yup, yup.
5. I’m a teenager at heart. No stuffed animals though, MTV.
8. TNG rules. Kirk and bad effects made TOS a no go for me. One of my favorite parts in any movie was when Kirk finally dies in Star Trek Generations.
9. Me too. See #5.
15. Me too, but I have never heard of either of those shows.
Now that I’m tagged, I’m off to write my own. http://prayingforlightening.blogspot.com/
I needed a topic for today. Thank you!
Pamela – great list. We’re even more alike than I thought. I might do this, but like Dan said, it would be really exposing myself. Not sure I’m ready for that.
Hi guys! Thanks for your comments. Glad I’m not alone in all my craziness
)
Hopefool, it’s always nice to meet new friends! Look forward to reading your list.
Dan and Diana, you could always keep your list pretty impersonal – tv shows you like, books you like, etc.
