Little Miracles

I was driving into Kansas City this afternoon and was completely in awe of the sun shining off of downtown.  I think that the fact that it was somewhat of a cloudy day made it just that much more beautiful, but the sun was shining in full force from behind me and reflected off of many of the buildings.  Winter is usually a pretty dreary time in KC.  One thing I always try to do is to look for the beauty in the little things.  Those every day moments that when you first glance at them seem like nothing special, but upon a second look seem almost miraculous.  I found hope in that reflected sunlight.  Hope and gratitude for what I have.

I tried to take a picture with my cell phone, but it didn’t turn out so well.  I look much farther away than I actually am, and you can’t see most of the sunlight.

Shortly after this, I was stunned by something else entirely:  the amount of diet/weight loss ads that play on our airwaves.  It’s insane!  Practically every other commercial is for some kind of weight loss system.  Everything from Slim4Life to Weight Loss Surgical Centers.  And for some reason that I can’t specify, their sing-song “Less of you, more of life, Weight Loss Surgical Centers” makes me want to tear my eyeballs out.   BLAH.  I know that weight loss surgery is an extremely controversial subject that everyone has a very strong opinion about, so I won’t get into my thoughts on the subject today, but just the fact that all of their ads make it sound like this tiptoeing through the tulips path to the perfect life makes me nuts.  I won’t post their link, because I don’t want to give them that much blog credit, but if you google them and watch the short video on their site, the song is at the end.  Do you all have to listen to this stuff all the time in your city?

On another note, I forgot to post the pics I took with my cell phone of my ENT’s office.  Can we say yikes?!  I don’t know if I’m more afraid of the scissors and sharp pointy things or the piles of gauze/tissues.  Obviously, they’re expecting great quantities of fluid to need to be cleaned up.  I’m also hoping these have all been sterilized….but aren’t there germs in the air??  Couldn’t some other antagonistic patient spit on them or something?  Maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem very professional.

I hope you all have a fantabulous weekend!  I’ll try and post with the results of my kitchen experiments sometime this weekend!

Somehow I almost forgot to wish my favorite actor, Christian Bale, a very happy 35th birthday!!   :)

Love the picture. I love to see the beauty in everyday things too, even though I really am a glass half-empty kind of gal (unlike yourself).

There’s windows on one side of our office that face out towards Puget Sound. On those rare days here in Seattle when we have a beautiful sunset I’ll yell for everyone to get out of their cubicles and come look. Everyone stops what their doing, runs to the window and ohs and ahs. I never get tired of it.

That ENT office would scare the you-know-what out of me!

Weight loss surgery ads drive me nuts too. Right, perfect life afterwards. Um…think again folks, not true. I hate their ads. I think they give false hope to people that it will solve all their problems. Makes me mad.

Pamela – have a great weekend!

there are always more weight loss ads this time of year, with new year’s resolutions and all…

  3. Pamela says:

That’s true, Shawna, but these play year round on the radio here!

Diana, we’re the same way! We have a great view of downtown, and every time there’s a great sunset or storm or rainbow, we all go running! Hope you have a good weekend, too!

Um. Not to scare you, but my tonsil yanking ENT’s office did NOT look like this. hmmm.

I have a window seat, and we too ooh and ahh over pretty sunsets. No scenic skyline in Schenectady though, just more of the company campus.
