My Week

Contrary to the way I felt last week, I am indeed still alive.  :)

I made it to my dental appointment last Wednesday, but left feeling (and somewhat looking) like I had been beat up.  The area around my mouth was so raw, and sadly I only had one permanent crown.  The other one didn’t fit right, so they have to redo it.  But my cold got even worse after that, and I missed worked Wednesday night.

Friday was my brother’s birthday, and my mom and I take that day off of work every year, too.  He would have been 28, three years older than I was when he died.

I was extremely glad to have the day off since I was still feeling crummy.  My cold was doing a bit better by then, but ever since the dentist’s appointment, I’ve been having massive sinus headaches.  Luckily, as of last night and today, those are doing a bit better, too.  So I’m still a bit congested and still have a headache, but am doing much, much better.  Thank you all for your get well wishes!

I had an interesting experience coming home from work on Thursday night.  I got pulled over by the cops for the first time in my life!  He said that I had a front headlight out (which I had noticed was dimmer, but only that night – it was fine on Tuesday) and had failed to signal when I turned.  This last part I’m not too sure about, because I actually remember signalling.  He also waited several blocks before pulling over, so I don’t know if he was hoping to catch me speeding, too, or something.  Luckily, I didn’t!  But I have no record, so he didn’t give me a ticket or a warning or anything.  At least I assume that’s why.  Did I mention that he was also really cute? ;)

I went and bought new headlight bulbs on Friday and attempted to replace them myself and did!  My dad helped a bit with getting the damn headlight apparatus actually out, but I did almost all the work and got the thing back in myself eventually (that was the tricky part).  Of course, they couldn’t make it too easy.  It was much easier changing them on my old car.  But then I went ahead and changed the other one, too.  I figured it would be going out sooner rather than later and decided to get it all over at once.  Of course, it had to pick the coldest day of the year.  My dad’s and my noses were dripping all over the place.  Lovely, right?  But I had dirty hands, a broken nail, and two new headlights to show for it.  I got a kick out of imagining my brother laughing his ass off at our struggles.  He was a car repair guru and would have had them both changed in 10 minutes.

Then Friday night and Saturday morning, we got several inches of snow!  Ugh. We stayed home all day Saturday and I trimmed/cut my hair.

We had rented a couple of movies on Friday:  Eagle Eye and Private Valentine.  Eagle Eye was one freaking awesome movie and I’m not just saying that because I like Shia LaBeouf.  It had a great cast and the movie was pretty intense.  I highly recommend it.  Private Valentine stars Jessica Simpson and actually didn’t turn out to be as bad as I thought it would be.  My expectations were pretty low, though. :) It was cute.

I also bought a DVD for the first time in months (Shawna, you’d be proud of me!)  My favorite TV show ever was Dead Like Me and I was devastated when they canceled it.  But they made a direct-to-DVD movie that FINALLY came out this month and we watched it last night.  They took a bit of a different approach than the show and it wasn’t nearly as funny, but it was still pretty good.  The show was on the air when my brother died and my parents and I started watching it shortly after that.  I think that it did a lot to help us with our grief.  Even my dad loves it.  Plus it’s just freaking hilarious.

Everything’s still covered with snow today (and it’s only 16 degrees), but I have errands to run since I stayed home all day yesterday.  One of which involves getting a book from Borders.  I started reading a different series by Charlaine Harris last week.  She’s the author of the Sookie Stackhouse books that the HBO show True Blood is based on.  This series stars Harper Connelly as a woman who can locate dead bodies and tell you how they died.  She received this interesting skill when she was struck by lightning.  It’s actually extremely good.  I got the second book in the series on Friday and had it done by Saturday morning.  It was so good I stayed up ALL night to finish it! So I’m going today to pick up the third in the series.  That’s the last one she’s written so far in this series, I think.

My mom’s still sick, but she said she’s feeling a bit better today and sounds a bit better.  My dad doesn’t seem to have picked it up yet so far, thank God.  But he did fall again from a seizure last night.  My mom was asleep and I was heading that way when I heard a crash.  He seems to be doing okay, but I’m sure it didn’t help his back any.  I think he did too much this weekend:  helping me with my headlights and then shoveling yesterday.

WW-wise, not such a great week.  Little exercise and too much food again!  I’ve got good intentions about the week coming up, though, and have been working out a recipe in my head to try later for my work meals.

Anyway, that’s my week.  I’ve been taking somewhat of a hiatus from my computer/e-mail lately, so I hope that everyone is happy and healthy and had a good week!
