New-to-Me Products

Random thought:  You know what I really hate?  When you get a piece of popcorn stuck in your teeth and you can’t figure out which teeth it’s stuck between.  It just feels all wrong, you know?  Okay, maybe it’s just me.

So since I’ve been shopping lately with keeping an eye toward trying to find foods to get myself back on track, I’ve stumbled across a few new-to-me products.  I’d say they were new, but for all I know, these could have been around for a while.

  • Oreo Fun Stix – Wafery, flaky, chocolatey, oreo-y goodness in a stick!  Forget the milk (my mom said the kid in the commercial was drinking milk through it like a straw) and eat it straight.  The best part is that there are two sticks in each individual package and the package of two is only 90 calories.
  • Michelina’s Lean Gourmet Snackers.  I’ve seen these in two kinds:  Pepperoni Pizza and Ham and Cheese.  While they’re both good, the pepperoni ones are by far my favorite.  They are five points per serving with 1 1/2 servings per box.  For the whole box, it’s only 7.5 points.  They’re also really cheap!  I’ve found them for about $1.50 (give or take) a box at my grocery store.  The same points as a Lean Cuisine pizza for half the price.

  • Jennie-O Marinated Turkey Tenderloin.  I found this at Sam’s Club yesterday.  There are two tenderloins in a package, for a total of 15 servings at only 100 calories and one gram of fat per serving (2 points!).  It looked like they had two kinds:  an Olive Oil kind and a Tomato Basil kind.  They were out of the olive oil one, so the tomato basil is the one that caught my eye.  I cooked one of them last night and have to say that it was pretty scrumptious!

  • This isn’t a new product, but I love Babybel Light cheese.  They’re a great little snack.  The only thing is that it can be rather expensive.  At HyVee, it is $4-5 for a package of six.  Even at Wal-Mart it is about $3.50 for a package of six.  While I was at Sam’s Club, I found a package of 22 for only $8.  Yes, huge savings!

I could have sworn there was another food find that I wanted to share, but can’t for the life of me recall what it was at the moment.  I have to say that grocery shopping has been frustrating lately.  Since I’ve been trying to get back on plan, I’ve been looking for some old favorites to get me back in the swing of things.  Unfortunately, several of them have disappeared into oblivion.  I’m assuming that the economy is making the companies cut back on their product lines.  The biggest one that makes me sad is the Hamburger Helper Cheesy Beef Taco microwaveable dinners.  I loved these things, but can’t find them anywhere.  And now the Cheesy Lasagna ones seem to be disappearing, too.  I’ve only been able to find the Cheeseburger macaroni ones which I personally don’t like.  Of course, I also didn’t like that they were an extra point.  Carlos, do you still get these?  If so, have you been able to find them anywhere?

So any of you out there that eat crazy stuff like I do know of any good new low-point products you’d like to share?

Thanks for the reviews. I haven’t seen the Oreos or the Snackers, so I’ll be looking for them the next time I’m in the store. Funny thing about Michelina products, the packages are so much smaller than HC or LC and I always think it’s not going to be enough, but put a side salad and a fruit with it and I always get full.

I haven’t tried the marinated turkey tenderloins, but I’ll have to look for them. They sound great.

About those Oreo stix – you’re kidding right? There’s not way I could an Oreo anything in my house and not eat the entire package. LOL!

I’ve not had any of the things you mentioned but they all sounded really good. I think the oreo stixs would get me in trouble though lol. As for the popcorn in my teeth it’s why I don’t eat it that much. I seem to always manage to get a husk in my teeth.
