I was at Blockbuster one day a couple of months ago and was digging through their previously viewed DVDs hoping to discover a gem. I came across the entire first season of “How I Met Your Mother” for only $10. I had heard people rave about this show many, many times, so I decided to grab such a great deal.
A couple of days later, a couple of my coworkers were raving about Barney on “How I Met Your Mother” and how funny he was. So, I thought, I need to get around to watching an episode.
It’s now a couple of months after that. Yeah, I tend to get distracted easily. I finally watched a couple of episodes and was hooked from the very first one, but it wasn’t until I made it to the third or fourth episode of the first season that I became a solid fan. Saturday night, I sat down around 1:00 am to watch a couple of episodes. At 8:00 am, or thereabouts, I finished the first season. It sucked me in and made me laugh so hard! Seriously, I love things that can make me literally laugh outloud. We’re talking real laughter, not just a snicker. So few shows can actually do that for me. Who’s Line Is It Anyway is the only one that consistently has me busting a gut, but what I love about this show is that it truly has heart to go with the humor.
It doesn’t quite reach the height of my favorite show, “Dead Like Me,” but it actually comes close. So far anyway. I want to hang out with these people!
Now that my HIMYM love-fest is out of my system, I wanted to share my favorite quote from the show (so far). It is from Barney, of course:
Ted, you’ve been living your whole life in a seatbelt. It’s time to unclick.
This is kind of how I feel about my life. I’ve lived my entire life in a seatbelt. Whether it was my sense of responsibility, fear of getting into trouble, or yeah, even my weight, I was so strapped down that it’s a wonder I could breathe. So the past few years have been lessons in learning to “unclick.” I’m gradually branching out and trying new things.
Next to “She eats carrots now; isn’t that tragic?” from “The Mirror Has Two Faces,” this quote has become one of my favorites from tv/film.
So, everybody, unclick your seatbelts and try something new once in a while!

What a great post! I’ve never seen the show, but I’ll look out for it on DVD!
You’re right, we need to unclick and live our lives!
