Day 3

First, thanks for all of your encouraging comments on my post from yesterday.  It’s also nice to see so many fellow meatloaf-lovers out there (and I’m not talking about this guy).  In looking up that link, I learned this: Meatloaf is a traditional German, Belgian and Dutch dish, and it is a cousin to the Italian meatball. American meatloaf has its origins in scrapple, a mixture of ground pork and cornmeal served by German-Americans in Pennsylvania since Colonial times. For more on one of America’s favorite dishes, click here. Now, on to the business at hand. I weighed in with [ ... ]

Turning Failure Around

So after my optimistic posts of last week, I blew it again.  As you know, I did pretty good Sunday and Monday and Tuesday (well, most of Tuesday), but then it all went downhill.  Beginning with an altercation with some brownies.  From there on out, the week flew by in a food-bliss haze. But I turned it around!  I didn’t blow it.  Isn’t that a terrible phrase anyway?  It signifies that something is a complete failure; that it is past all redemption.  And my weight is not. In fact, while I was practically in a food-induced coma by Saturday night (pizza, donuts, [ ... ]

The Twelve Irish Tenors

In my post about my weekend in Branson, I mentioned that the highlight of my trip was hearing The Twelve Irish Tenors sing Happy Birthday to me.  If you’re interested, here is the video I was able to get -- the quality of which seriously doesn’t do them justice. (And why yes, I do think I was the youngest person there that day.)

A Victory

My weekend wasn’t the best, yet I still consider it a major victory for me. Saturday was mixed.  On one hand, I ate like a starving woman at an all-you-can-eat buffet.  On the other hand, I took advantage of the beautiful weather and got back out to my favorite hiking location for the first time in months (I’m not a hot-weather kind of girl). Not  only did I get out and walk, but I also walked at least two miles and did the intermediate trail instead of the easy one!  I was pretty proud of myself.  It was a gorgeous day.  Perfect [ ... ]

My Branson Birthday Weekend

Wow, first I have to send a big ole thanks out to you all for the incredibly supportive comments so many of you have left on my last couple of posts.  Even the incredible author I raved about, Brené Brown, posted a very supportive comment – words cannot express how much I admire her.  I told you she was wonderful.  I appreciate the time that you all spent in reading and responding to what I had to say.  You’ve reminded me that I am not my weight, though it is hard to remember that sometimes when you feel [ ... ]

Hold on for one more day

In further proof that I am indeed the biggest klutz (or idiot, depending on how you want to look at it) in the world, I just succeeding in scalding the inside of my mouth and throat with hot tomato soup.  I had just heated up one of those Campbell’s Soup at Hand cups at work and was walking back to my desk.  I was so deep in thought that I just lifted it to my mouth and swallowed.  I think several shades of “holy crap” went through my head as it went down.  Now I’m guzzling cold water and praying [ ... ]

Shame

Shame (according to dictionary.com): (shām)  n. 1.      a. A painful emotion caused by a strong sense of guilt, embarrassment, unworthiness, or disgrace. 2. One that brings dishonor, disgrace, or condemnation. 3. A condition of disgrace or dishonor; ignominy. –noun 1. the painful feeling arising from the consciousness of something dishonorable, improper, ridiculous, etc., done by oneself or another: She was overcome with shame. 2. Pamela Oh wait….how did that last one get in there?  Shame has been my friend for the past several months.  In fact, shame is often a well-known companion for many overweight people.  Or at least I’m hoping it’s not just unique to [ ... ]

Calling for all Grins, Giggles, and Guffaws

Okay, guys, I’m in a bad, bad place tonight. It was a rough, rough day.  It started off when I remembered two of my dreams.  In the first, my brother was alive again and it was like he had never died.  In the second, he was dead again and we were in a trial trying to figure out what had happened to him.  I remember sobbing in the dream.  Of course, when I woke up, I didn’t realize that I would spend most of the rest of the day on the verge of tears. Then I think my mom was trying to [ ... ]

PETA

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the disgusting (my opinion) PETA billboard. Let me state two things before I further state my opinion: 1.  I’m all for animal rights. 2.  I’m all for people being vegetarian or vegan if that is what they choose. Now my opinion.  I can’t stand PETA.  I think their tactics go too far, are often counter-productive in most situations, and in others, like this one and the one below, are just plain disgusting. My dad sent me this link that I thought was really interesting.  I enjoyed the interview with Montel, so make sure to listen [ ... ]
