And a partridge in a pear tree. No seriously, I didn’t know what to name today’s post, so why not call it like it is?
First, the plus to my weight gain. Yes, there IS a plus to the fact that over the last year, I’ve regained 63 pounds!! ACK!! Seeing it in print like that is really scary. But it’s out there. We all know I’ve been struggling for a long time…and when you’ve been struggling for a long time and the weight keeps creeping up…well, it keeps creeping up.
So what in the world could be a good thing about this? Remember my patulous eustachian tube (link is to info on Wikipedia)? Some of you may remember me complaining (a/k/a bitching) about it and how it was driving me up a wall and how nothing can really be done for it? Well, I have further proof that weight gain and loss affects this condition. At my highest weight, I used to suffer from it maybe a couple of times a year – usually after exertion (not to say that I only exerted myself a couple of times a year – which actually might not be that hard to believe – but it really only happened a few times a year). As my weight decreased, it gradually got worse and worse until it was almost every. freaking. day.
Well, you guessed it. It now hardly ever bothers me again. Once in while out of the blue, and then sometimes on extra intense exertion. It might not sound like much, but I’ll tell you, it’s been pure heaven. Too bad all of the other benefits to weight loss outweigh this massive disadvantage. Argh. If you have never experienced this condition, I can tell you it is pure hell.

Okay, enough about that. Onto my “ugh.” So I stopped to get gas after work tonight. Just like I’ve done a million times before. This time, a car pulls up at the pump on the next aisle and a guy gets out. No big deal…minding my own business. But, as he gets out, he starts singing, belting out a country tune at the top of his lungs. So I’m thinking, hey, he’s not bad. Until….wait for it…he sings a line about me in my purple shirt and holding onto a certain part of his private genitalia. UGH. Just when I start to have faith in people again (mostly thanks to you all), someone has to come along that just, well, SUCKS. I ignored him, of course. I’m sure he was drinking. God, I hope he was drinking.

Now, to my playlist. One thing that I love about my blackberry is the memo feature. I have lost track of the number of memos I’ve got in this thing. It’s particularly fantastic for those moments when you hear a song lyric you like and want to look up later, a movie you hear about that you want to see, etc. So for the past several months, I’ve been keeping track of songs I want to download, etc. This is the latest batch that I’ve been listening to in the car and at work (I guess you could say I seem to be in a “mood”):
- “Hold On” – Wilson Phillips (’nuff said – warning: beware the horrible fashion sense in the video link!)
- “Lie to Me” – Shane Mack (heard this song on a movie I love called “Shelter” – I like the lyrics and it’s pretty good if you can forget that the person singing is a guy)
- “More Than This” – Shane Mack (this was also in “Shelter” – I love the lyric “at least I loved enough to hurt” )
- “Shattered: Turn the Car Around” – O.A.R. (I love the lyric “how many times can I break ’til I shatter”)
- “This Time” – Jonathan Rhys Meyers (from “August Rush”)
- “Inside of Me” – Jamie Coon
- “Love Remains the Same” – Gavin Rossdale
- “My Immortal” – Evanescence (I’ve heard this a gazillion times already, just love it)
- “When Will I” – Candi Staton (I’m not really religious, but I think this song has lyrics that we can all relate to. May be my new anthem).
It’s okay, you can laugh. I guess I’m just in a “mellow” mood.
So any songs on here you like, hate, haven’t heard before?
Any ugh moments in your life recently? (I sincerely hope not!)

That is so hard that your condition gets better when you gain weight. What a non-motivator.
Hope he was drinking…but ya never know. lol
I’ve been in a singing mood, so I’ve been listening to Broadway music, soundtracks and Sarah Brightman. I introduced my kids to Phantom of the Opera and my 6 y/o loved it.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Lynn
Sounds like depression has you in it’s grip, hope you can break free soon. I’m a top 40′s kind of woman so nothing fantastic on my ipod lol. Hope you have a good weekend.
So, Pammykins, it’s a good thing to know that your PET can be helped in a natural way, and maybe even better to know that it probably has nothing to do with your actual weight. More than likely you are eating something now that you weren’t eating when you were strictly following Weight Watchers. Chocolate, for instance, has antioxidants and some decent health benefits. You just need to figure out what food item it is that actually helps the condition and make sure you keep it in your diet even when you are back on plan.
It more than depresses me that you have to include a warning about the O.A.R. video. Why no warning about the bad fashion in the Wilson Phillips video?
And that “Shattered” song by O.A.R.? Thank Meredith. Put in her “Blurring the Edges” CD and listen to “Shatter.” It’s not stolen by any means, but it definitely owes her a nod of thanks.
Hi guys! Thanks for the comments!
Riley, I really wish that was the case. Unfortunately, I’m not really eating anything all that different from what I was eating before – just more of it. So unless I just wasn’t getting enough of it…don’t know. But every single thing I’ve read says that it is just a physical malfunction in the tube and because there’s already that problem, the loss of fatty tissue around it makes it worse. The added fat around it helps keep it shut.
Good point! I will definitely make sure to revise to include a warning about the bad fashion in the WP video. The warning about the guys was meant to be more tongue-in-cheek than serious. I mean cute guys! Would get my attention! ;o)
I’ll definitely have to listen to that Meredith song and let you know what I think.
Hi Pamela. Well at least the guy in the service station must have thought you were a bit dishy to have included you in his song – even if he was a bit leud about it. The rough with the smooth as they say!
Despite the weight gain you are still attractive. You should remember this when you are feeling less confident about your appearance. YOU ARE ATTRACTIVE.
Hope the next guy that notices you is a little more eloquent in conveying it!
Best wishes,
Bearfriend xx
Bearfriend, you are one amazing person! Thank you so much!
Pamela – Shelter is such a great movie, isn’t it? I love “Lie to Me” by Shane Mack. Actually, I love anything by Shane Mack, but “Lie to Me” is definitely my favorite!
Yay, Barbara! A fellow “Shelter” lover! I’m actually getting ready to watch it right now. Listening to the music for the past couple of days has made me want to see it again. It’s been a couple of months. I think it’s beautiful.
Those are the only two songs I’ve heard of Shane’s, but I’m definitely going to check out more! Any recommendations?
It’s amazing how we all have our different styles of music we like! I listen to BPM 81 on XM radio LOL
Oh, sure! Check this site out:

“Shelter” is a beautiful movie. It got in my head and just wouldn’t go away…I had to go out and buy it. So many great moments, but ya gotta love the beach scene at the end!
Okay, Barbara, I’m hooked! I’m going to have to download those songs!! Thanks again!
LOL Well, welcome! It’s sad, but after watching Shelter Friday night, I ended up watching it again yesterday morning with my mom. She loved it, too! Thanks again!
Yep, there’s not much to not like about that movie!
I agree, Barbara! There are so many beautiful parts of the movie. The part where they almost get caught by Gabe always cracks me up.
And Jeanne just needs smacked!
Thanks for the link! I can’t wait to check out all of the songs on it!
Yep, that’s a great scene! I also like the one where Zach and Gabe are talking in the diner. You’re right about Jeanne. The “They don’t take kids” line in too much.
How weird is that…you gain weight and now you’re actually feeling better. That’s very strange.
About the guy at the gas pump, gross! I hate guys that do that kind of thing. Even if he was drunk, no excuse for being so nasty.
Hang in there Pamela. It’s going to get better for you and you’ll lose the weight you’ve gained. You’ve done it before and you’ll do it again. Once you’re back in the swing of things you’ll wonder why you ever stopped. I’m rooting for you!
