Hi all! Unfortunately, I had a bit of bad news on the scale today. I was up 0.9 pounds. Blah. Oh well, it could have been a lot worse. And as Bearfriend said, the fact that I’m back on plan is all that matters! And I AM back on plan. I did decently yesterday and have done perfectly today. This is progress. Every other time I’ve screwed up over the past year, I’ve gone into a full-blown tailspin of eating frenzy. Not so this time!
I’ve been spending a lot of my time reading lately and trying to catch up on some things. I just finished a book that my friend recommended. It’s a historical romance novel, and part of a HUGE series of which this is the 3rd (I’ve also read the first two), but I adored it:
Right now, I have an insane amount of unread books sitting in my bedroom – we’re talking three overflowing copy paper boxes. I’m determined to make a dent on them, so hopefully no one else loans me a book for a while. While appreciative, I’m starting to feel a bit overwhelmed! Ack! That reminds me that I have a big bag full of borrowed books from one of my mom’s friends to read, too.
Anyway, for now I’ve put “The End of Overeating” on hold for a bit to make a dent in my other stack. I’m currently reading two books at once – well, not at the same time, but a little here and a little there. One is Sylvia & Ted: A Novel by Emma Tennant. Unfortunately, I can honestly say that I pretty much hate it. I’ve always been fascinated by Sylvia Plath and her story, so the concept and content aren’t the problem. My problem lies with Ms. Tennant’s writing style. But I’m halfway through and I’m bound and determined to finish the darn thing.
The other thing I’m reading is this one:
After watching the movie and loving it, I was pretty sure I’d love the book, too. So far, that’s been the case. Hopefully, I’ll continue to enjoy it. I did come across this quote that I absolutely love:
He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.
I often wonder that, as well. And whoever it is, they BETTER be enjoying it! ![]()
On another positive front, I finished my taxes tonight! WHOOHOO! Luckily, mine are fairly uncomplicated so it didn’t take me too horribly long. All of my American friends out there, I’ve got my fingers crossed that yours goes as smoothly.

Hi Pamela. It’s great that you’re on plan. You can do it! Your attitude to this sounds calm yet commited – which is perfect!
The only thing I’ve read by Emma Tennant is Hotel de Dream which didn’t really do much for me. I think I’ve probably heard too much about Sylvia and Ted already to try that book. Not to mention seeing the film with Gwyneth Paltrow – which I thought was good. But it’s hardly a cheery story!
Well done with getting your taxes done!

H2G2 is awesome. Look out for Towel Day, I think it’s coming up in May.
If you are reading a book that you can’t stand, it’s OK to stop. I’m telling you this because I used to have a problem putting down books that annoyed me. I would waste miserable hours hating myself, the book, the author, the editor, the publisher and the bookseller while reading books that weren’t worth the paper they were printed on.
One glorious evening, I threw the truly terrible romance novel I was reading across the room and the satisfaction I felt as it hit the wall–you have no idea! But you will in a moment. Locate that book that you are slogging through and throw it as hard as you can against the wall.
Better now?
Go toss it in the trash, recycle bin, donation pile, whatever.

LOL Thanks for the laugh, Christy! Thanks to you, I will definitely be more open to chucking terrible books against the wall! I’m about to post about it, but I did end up finishing this one.
I’m looking forward to Towel Day! Can’t miss that!
