Pamela’s Pop Poll – “How do you eat?”

Ha – Pop Poll. Makes me think of these things from my youth. Wow, I loved them, and in fact, I think I still have mine somewhere in storage. I’m pretty sure I had the white one.

So the subject of today’s Pop Poll (kind of like a pop quiz, but with no way to fail) is “How do you eat?” and on this go ’round, I’ve got two questions for you.

First, how frequently do you have meals throughout the day? I know there’s been a lot of value placed in the media of having multiple small meals throughout the day, but I noticed on The Biggest Loser the other night that both Bob and Jillian said not to do that. Jillian said to only have 3 meals with one snack between lunch and dinner. Bob said to eat a full meal every four hours with a small snack in between. Jillian said that eating several small meals makes you end up eating more. So how do you do it? Does it work for you? What has been your experience if you’ve tried different schedules?

Second, do you eat breakfast? If you do, how do you think it affects your weight?

If you would, please vote on the polls above, and feel free to leave any comments or thoughts below. I’d love to hear them! Especially about these thoughts:

  • If you eat breakfast, what do you usually have?
  • Are your meals usually about the same size, or is one usually larger than the others (i.e., do you eat more at lunch than dinner or vice versa?)
  • Thanks in advance!

Please note: If you are reading this in a feed or from my main blog page, you’ll have to click through to the post’s actual page to see the polls.

Hi Pamela. I always eat breakfast. Sometimes I delay it for an hour or so after I get up. But I have to have it.

I don’t generally do small snacking because it never satisfies me. I am a volume eater so eating tiny little bits of food doesn’t help at all. Also eating all day would just f-up my blood sugar by keeping the insulin rolling all day long which is the last thing I need.

I’d rather have a proper meal and feel satisfied afterwards.

I have to admit i always eat breakfast in fact sometimes i consume more calories than any other meal :) I tried having 3 meals and a couple of snacks but it didn’t work for me. 3 meals a day seems to be what my body likes!

I used to skip breakfast (and eat all kind of bad for you junk). Now I eat a decent sized breakfast and I feel so much better. I am a holistic nutritionist and psychotherapist, and I am seeing a few women in their 30s and 40s who weigh about 20 to 40 lbs than they need to…and it’s come about from skipping meals. Literally. They are eating too little. That messes with your blood sugar and eventually your metabolism.

Breakfast sets the tone for my day. not just mentally, physically. If the first thing I eat is crap, or full of sugar- my body will say oh, well looks like we are gonna crave sugar all day.
So I eat a very large eggwhite (1.5 cups) omelet with spinach, salsa and shredded wheat.
I eat 5 meals a day. Breakfast is the largest, and each main meal gets smaller through out the day. No bread-like carbs after 5pm, unless I just worked out. Inbetween meals are only slightly smaller than main meals. But all have that same amount of protein…at least 20 grams or more!
