Okay, before you start thinking that that is really what I call her, I really don’t. Not even in my head. That wouldn’t be nice. But for the sake of tonight’s post, that is what I’ll call her.
I’ve mentioned that I work nights. Well, sometimes we might have a bit of down time, or on breaks, I’ll go for a walk or wander around the building. Sometimes for the exercise, sometimes just to be able to stand up for a bit!
First, while there are others that work nights with us, the building can still be kind of quiet and I accidentally scared the crap out of this woman one night as she was vacuuming.
Tonight, I decided to do a couple of flights of stairs like I used to. Of course, I couldn’t do anything like the number I used to. This time, I just stuck with 3 floors up (two long flights per floor). Then, I walked across the building to the other stairwell to go back down.
What spurred this was actually the hope of working off some anxiety. By the time I hit the second floor up, I literally felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest! And I used to do 12 flights up! And when I say literally, I mean it! I actually put my hand to my chest and felt it thumping!
Anyway, my heart is thumping along as I got back to my floor. I open the door to rush out onto the floor, and who was crouched right outside, trying to plug in her vacuum? You guessed it. And Pamela about went into cardiac arrest. I have to admit it was pretty funny. I’m sure the look on my face was priceless. Not so great for getting rid of the anxiety though.

Pamela, be careful about trying to work out too hard when you’re not use to it. You could hurt yourself!
Remember the thing about trying to walk 10,000 steps a day? Everyone use to talk about it. Well, I bought a cheap little pedometer and it’s kind of fun trying to make the 10,000 steps. I find myself taking the long way around to get to the kitchen at the office. I walk over and talk to my coworkers instead of sending an email. I park farther away at work and at the grocery store. Anything to get a few more steps in.
Get a pedometer and give it a try. It’s actually kind of fun trying to get up to 10,000. I didn’t even come close yesterday. I was only at 2900. Amazing how little I actually walk (of course, that didn’t count my hour at the gym
.
.-= Diana´s last blog ..Let’s not talk about it until it’s over =-.
That’s a good point, Diana! I’ll be careful! That’s actually why I stopped after 3 floors. I have a pedometer around here somewhere, but I’ve never had much luck with its accuracy. Even after measuring my steps, it never seems to count it accurately – perhaps I just bounce too much?
I need to drag it back out and give it another try! Thanks for the idea, Diana!
Hey – we were planning on going to the zoo tomorrow…I wonder if I can find the darn thing before then…
I couldn’t find mine, Diana, so I got a new one today. I’m wondering at its accuracy, though. It said I walked over 1,000 steps just going to the grocery store. How can that even be possible?
Do you take yours off and on during the day, like in the car? If not, wouldn’t any bumps you hit make it start counting?
