Lbs. the Movie and The NY Daily News and Changes

In the latest “Lbs.” news – because, seriously, did you think I could let a day go by without mentioning it – there was a fantastic article about it in the NY Daily News. (I got this image from Lbs.’s Facebook page – click on image to see it.)

You can read it on the web here, and please do, but my favorite quotes were these:

“Of all the addictions, it’s the one people have the least patience for,” Famiglietti said.

and

“Whatever you want to do, you have to keep fighting,” he said. “It starts with you. And don’t be afraid to laugh about it. It’s good to have a sense of humor.”

In fact, I loved it and the movie so much that I let Carmine himself know.  He has proven himself to be very gracious and supportive in all of our correspondence, and seems to be just a genuinely nice, down-to-earth guy.

By the way, do any of you watch Law & Order?  If so, did you happen to catch the episode last night (Monday night)?  Carmine was in it!  He played a bartender towards the beginning of the show.

He also tweeted one of my absolutely favorite quotes from the movie earlier today, which, of course, I immediately retweeted as fast as my little (little is a relative term) fingers would move.  :)

“One last little bit of advice.  Just because you changed don’t expect others have.”

Between the two biggest events in my life over the past 7 years (my brother’s death and my weight loss), I’ve never known truer words.  Both events changed me in many indescribable ways.  Some not readily apparent to those that love me, and some I’m still working to figure out myself.  I’ve changed a lot in the past few years – for the better in some ways, for the worse in others.  I freely admit that.  But I am who I am.  This is me now.

Both events have colored my world viewpoint and the way I see everything from world peace, to how I handle a work assignment, to whether I have that last cookie, to the spider that’s in hibernation just waiting for a warm afternoon to crawl across my ceiling.  (I know you’re out there!!  or as Neil says in the movie, “Where are you hiding?!?”)

I look at some things really differently now – for one, I try to not focus so much on the negative (stress on try) and I really do my damnedest to enjoy the little things.  Even if something doesn’t live up to my expectations, high though they may be, I try to look for the positive in them.  Like I’ve said before, sometimes I just like to stop and take in the moment – the beautiful, only comes once, life-filled moment.  Because of my brother, I know how precious those are.

So over the course of your journey – whether it’s weight loss or otherwise – don’t be surprised if you find yourself changing mentally, spiritually, emotionally, as well as physically.  Don’t expect that others are changing with you and will be able to totally grasp where you’re coming from now without a little bit of explanation.  Because as I can’t say often enough, we each have our own journey.  They may have changed, too, along the way, but I guarantee you that their changes won’t look like yours.

Wow, that post turned serious awfully fast!

I’ve had a couple of posts in the back of my mind for a while now:  “What I learned from losing 160+ pounds” and “What I learned from regaining 80+ pounds.”  Hopefully, I will be able to get those to you in the next week or so.

  1. Wow Pam! That was deep! ( :

    The more you talk about Lbs, the more I look forward to seeing it! I can’t wait! I am very disappointed I missed Law and Order last night. Even more so, now that I know I missed seeing Carmine, too.

    Regarding change….. Thank you for giving me one more thing to worry about as I strive to reach my goal! lol Just joking, of course!!! Really, thank you. I never thought about “change” that way before. Now, thanks to you, I hopefully will be somewhat prepared.

  2. I watch reruns all of the time, so I’m sure I’ll be able to catch it again. And thanks for having faith in me. Hopefully, you’ll rub off on me! ( ;
