Pamela’s Pop Poll – “Responding to Comments”

Hi guys!  Before I get to today’s “Pop Poll,” I wanted to let you all know that I’m still doing good and am still on plan.  You’d be proud of me!  Last night, I was on a mission to find the new Sherrilyn Kenyon “Dark Hunters” book “Infinity.”  I first stopped at Wal-Mart, and actually planned beforehand that maybe I would allow myself one candy bar.  They unfortunately didn’t have my book, but you know what? I also talked myself out of getting a candy bar!  I told myself that maybe I would stop and get a 3 point ice cream cone from McDonald’s.  Well, I did stop to get one, but they weren’t serving them for some reason.

So then, I thought, “well, there’s another McDonald’s not too far away.  I could try there.”  But then I thought, “hey, maybe the grocery store has my book.  They sometimes have new releases.  But the McDonald’s is on the way to the grocery store and I don’t want to have to gulp it down.”  So then I had to decide whether I wanted the ice cream or the book more, because I wasn’t going to backtrack.  I decided to skip the cone and see if they had my book.  And they did!  Yay!  But not only that, they also had this:

Yes, the great bin o’ temptation!  And you know what?  I forced myself to pass right by it!  Did I mention there were Reese’s in there?!?!?

Now, I did stop and get a cone on my way home from work tonight, but I’ve been home for almost an hour and still haven’t eaten it all.  I actually put it in the freezer to stretch it out a bit, and I’m going to count it.  So right now, I’m pretty proud of me!

Okay, on to today’s “Pop Poll.”  I’ve seen bloggers respond to readers’ comments in a couple of different ways.

One way is to respond directly to the comment on the blog page itself.  I know that some people never check back (especially if they’re commenting on a lot of different blogs) to see if I or anyone else has responded to what they said.  I also know that I have an option you can select to be notified of follow-up comments, but I also know how annoying those emails can get sometimes.

The other way I’ve seen bloggers do it is by responding directly to a reader’s comment by e-mail.

I’ve responded to a couple of comments by e-mail, but for the most part, I’ve been responding to your comments directly on my blog. Especially if I think others would be interested in my response.

I haven’t been responding as often lately, because I didn’t know if anyone actually ever checked back or not.  So here’s your chance to let the world know what you prefer! (That is if you do actually want to hear any crazy response I might have to one of your comments LOL)

So I had a poll here, but it doesn’t appear to be working properly – ah, such is my life. So here are the options:

How do you like bloggers to respond to your comments?

  1. Directly on the blog site, because I check back to see if there are responses
  2. Directly on the blog site, because I subscribe to follow-up comments (if the option is available)
  3. By e-mail only to me, so that I don’t have to check back or subscribe
  4. I don’t particularly care to hear a blogger’s response to my comments
  5. Other – please explain below

Of course, all other comments are welcome below, too!  :)

Awwww, I used to love the Popples! lol

Kudos to you for staying on plan!!! Isn’t it crazy how much thought we give to food!?! My goodness! lol Glad to see I’m not the only one who takes it so seriously! lol Congrats on skipping the Reese’s and on finding your book, too!

I voted for “Directly on the blog site, because I subscribe to follow-up comments”. Although, your blog doesn’t always have the option for me to click to “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail”. Not sure why. I responded to 5 of your posts tonight and this is the only one that has given me the option. Who knows!?! lol But whenever it’s available, I definitely click it. I love reading other peoples thoughts, too.

Thanks for the info, Skye! That’s so odd, because I logged out to see which posts it gave me the option to do that on, and it’s not there for me on any of my posts. I’m going to have to look into what’s going on. Thanks for the heads-up!

Seriously, Pamela, that was a lot of back and forth over ice cream and candy bars!!! :D
I do the same thing. When you read someone else’s account you can see how much energy is put in to it. I wish I put that much effort in to arguing over whether or not I’m stopping for broccoli or bananas. How come we don’t do that?

I thought I voted for “email me” but it looks like my vote didn’t go through.
I read and comment on a lot of blogs and that takes a lot of time as it is so I rarely go back to see if my question’s been answered.

Personally, I like to email people directly but a lot of people don’t leave their email and so it’s “no reply”.
I don’t answer my comments in the comments because I figure people don’t come back to read them. Maybe I should.
Sometimes I’ll answer a question in the next day’s post.

    Anything you do is cool.

I received an email from you once, which was incredibly lovely, but I hadn’t checked my email for a few days so I didn’t know about it till days later. LOL. I read all the comments on your blog because the other readers are fun and interesting (stands to reason, since they’re fans of yours too!)

More and more lately I’ve been thinking about this diet thing in terms of how I want to live my life. This has got to be for the long run, so a little self restraint is a good thing…but, like you, I see no reason to be restrictive all the time. I have a little bit of chocolate on most days. But it is good for me to go without it sometimes too…reminds me that life’s beauty and pleasures are so much more vast than a treat I can consume.

Dude…I just passed that bin yesterday too! In fact, I know you live in KC…I wonder if we’re closer neighbors than we thought!!

In any case, I saw those reese’s and almost caved. But I didn’t! I walked right by just like you.

    SO PROUD OF YOU!!

    Keep it up chica!!

I usually try to check back on your blog comments when I leave a comment. I actually never thought much about the best way to respond as a blogger. I guess directly on the blog site or through email. LOL Didn’t really narrow it down by much.

Wow, you did amazing bypassing the ice cream and candy.

Sometimes when I’m in the bakery part of the grocery store (which I have to work through to get to the “nutrition center – health food”), I look at the cakes and cookies and think I just love to stuff my face with that stuff. I use to do that on a regular basis. Now I can’ remember the last time.

You’re lucky that you can one ice cream cone and be satisified with it. I have a major flaw where I have to eat a half gallon of ice cream to feel temporarily satisfied. Or an entire box of WW ice bars. I had to give that stuff off. I can’t eat just “one”.

About the poll, I don’t usually come back and read comments. But I would check the thing to update me with comments if you had it here. I know it use to be here, but I don’t see it anymore. :) I love getting emails from you, but I know that can be really time consuming. Plus most people don’t have an email in their profiles (annoying).

Btw – gaining 4+ pounds in three days is nothing. I can gain that overnight. :)

  7. Shawna says:

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about this and here is my conclusion. I would like for you to respond to my comments with a new blog post titled each time “In Response To Her Majesty’s Comment”

    muah hahahhahahahahhahahahah

  8. Lyn says:

I respond right in the comments so that other people can see the answer to whatever the question was, but it kind of annoys me when people never come back to see the answer. IMO if you are going to ask a question, and the blogger is going to take the time to answer you, come back and read it. If you’re not that interested in the answer, then why ask?

  9. Rebecca says:

Hey Pamela! Hope all is going okay. I’m sort of a worry wart. LOL. Pop in again when you get a moment. Please? Even if just to say you’re still alive and kickin’. (This exact attitude of mine is why my kids roll their eyes at me. A lot.) :-)
