Hi everyone! This is going to be just a quick post, since I should technically be in bed right now. We got good news at work this afternoon, that my company is going to be closing early tomorrow. WHOOHOO! My boss is also letting myself and another co-worker go in early, so we’ll get off even earlier. So I have to be at work by 1pm, which is about three hours earlier than usual. Hence the fact that I should be in bed.
But when have you ever known me to be in bed when I should be?
Anyway, food-wise, still not doing so great. I’m seriously starting to get a bit discouraged. All last week was a mess, and most of this week has been a mess, too. I did peek at the scale, and I’m somehow down 1.5 lbs from Tuesday’s weigh-in, but I’m not counting on that lasting through the weekend. I’ve also done a bit better the past couple of days, but in no way could be considered “on plan.”
We did go to a BBQ place for dinner tonight at work to celebrate one of my co-worker/friend’s birthday. I actually had fun. It was the three of us that work the night shift in our department and our supervisor that went. I was sooooooo soooooo tempted to get something really yummy, but I got the grilled chicken salad again. I do have to admit that it’s pretty delicious, but not quite the same. But I survived.
As I mentioned, my aunt and uncle are coming in to town tomorrow around noon and are staying through the weekend. I have absolutely NO idea what we’re going to do while they’re here. Especially since my dad fell hard from his epilepsy again the other night and is having a really hard time getting around right now – he’s so sore. But, of course, he refuses to go to the doctor. Plus, the last I heard, it’s supposed to be really hot again, which also isn’t good for him. We’ll probably just end up playing cards and games and such (which I actually enjoy) and maybe go to a movie or two. Ah, the excitement in my life.
So anyway, I want to wish all of my American friends an extremely Happy 4th of July/Independence Day, and all of my international friends a fantastic weekend!
If you’re in the US, how do you celebrate the 4th if you do?
If you’re outside the US, does your country have a similar holiday? If so, when is it and how do you usually celebrate?
PS-I’m so happy for my parents, as today is their 36th wedding anniversary!

we are celebrating OLD SCHOOL HERE!

We commemorate the first democratic elections of 1994 on April 27th (Freedom Day), but we don’t do anything special on that day. It’s just a holiday. The only holiday that has tradition (in the way of food and what we do) tied to it is Christmas.
Happy 4th of July!

That’s so interesting, Hanlie! Thank you for sharing!
Everyone gathers in the town square, after drinking hard liquor throughout the day, and simultaneously sets off the most insanely dangerous illegal fireworks ever manufactured for “personal” use. But first, however, the fire marshall comes through with his antique fire truck and sprays down the roofs of stores (whose owners have paid in advance for the privilege) and throws candy to the children. Husband and I stay home and mock the craziness. We make some fireworks of our own.
Ah. America. Gotta love it.
LOL Rebecca! Sounds like you and your husband are getting the better evening.
Sounds like your town has quite the wild time. Do you live in a small town?
The nearest town is about 7 miles away, & and it’s quite small (a school, a couple churches, and lots of bars, LOL). There is a city, 25 miles away, where I hope to find work in the next few months. I enjoy country living…my cherries are ready for harvest (started picking today); soon the apricots, plums, & peaches will be ripe, and in the fall there will be a bumper crop of apples and pears. (5 varieties of apples!) It’s quite an orchard, and I planted every single tree.
Pamela,
I just started reading your blog, and love it! Anyway on to your question…My family gathers from all over the world and we celebrate ALL of our normal Holidays in one. Since I have family in all across the U.S. and one in Africa, we only get together once per year, and this is it.
Tomorrow is our big day, and I am SO excited! There will be a couple of BBQ’s and lots of Fireworks…I know that it will be impossible not to eat 10,000 calories, but on a day like this – who cares?
Anyway, thanks again for blogging – you are in inspiration!
~Ben
Thank you, Ben! It sure sounds like you had a fun 4th planned. I hope it went well!
Great job on NOT picking something yummy while eating out. I try to remember that when I go out to it, that it’s really not about the food, but the people I’m with.
I hope you had a happy Fourth!
Funny thing, I have to be toastmaster at my Wednesday Toastmasters meeting, July 7. I just did a search for “July 7″ in Google to see if anything significant happened on that day. You came up as the ninth listing, this link, your recap for July – http://www.uncoveringpamela.com/blog/2008/07/page/2/. I thought that was pretty interesting. Just for kicks I tried “July 9″ “July 15″, you come up every time on the first page of Google results. Has to be an uppercase “J”.

Thanks, Diana! I hope that you had a happy fourth, too! That’s so funny about your Google search. Good luck on your meeting!!!
