I am finally blackberry-less! WHOOHOO! Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have anything against Blackberry, and I may get another one at some point in the future – you never know – but the one that I owned was getting on my very last nerve. Issues out the whazoo.
Sometimes, I think fate is a distinct possibility.
I’ve been having trouble sleeping for the past few weeks (as if that’s really anything new), so have been pretty tired a lot of the time. And when you factor in the fact that I was sick Thursday and Friday, you get a Pamela that’s not at the top of her game. Saturday was a good day – got to meet a couple of new friends. One I met here through my blog (Christy, who I’ve mentioned before), and another that I met through and have been chatting with on Twitter. Both are really great people. And it was fun to finally meet some people that I’ve connected with online.
Somehow I ended up staying up pretty late – almost 4am – again this morning (Sunday). I fully intended on sleeping in and trying to catch up on some sleep. HA. A big thunderstorm with crazy wind and rain woke me up around 9:45am or so. I went downstairs to see the storm outside (for obvious reasons, I have major blackout curtains covering my windows) and decided to hop on and check twitter/email, etc. And this is where fate came into play. If the storm hadn’t woken me up and hadn’t been so strong, I would have slept in and not seen a friend’s post on Facebook that he had a new HTC EVO – exactly the phone that I’ve been on the waiting list for at Sprint for the past THREE weeks. He got it at Best Buy last night.
As soon as Best Buy opened for the day, I called every single one in the immediate area. All were completely sold out (including the one that he got his at), except for one store near me that had a few of the new exclusive-to-Best Buy white ones. SCORE! So I immediately headed out there and snatched one up. At first, I wasn’t sold on the idea of a white one, but really, it’s just the back of it that is white and I have a case on it now, anyway. I was in geek heaven at Best Buy and thereafter.
Best Buy was sold out of any cases that had any substance, so I headed over to the nearest Sprint store as soon as I could, where I proceeded to enjoy the fact that all of the Sprint employees (has anyone ever seen a woman working at a Sprint store?!) had to come over and see it and pretty much drool over it. That was fun.
Apparently, because they’re so scarce, Sprint employees aren’t eligible to even be put on the waiting list.
And here it is:
So most of my day has been spent playing with it and getting things set up and seriously, the number of apps available for download is a geeky girl’s dream. I’m slowly getting used to the touch keyboard, though I’m not nearly as fast as I was on my blackberry and can pretty much only do it one-handed. But the ability to view the web like the real web has made it all worthwhile.
Look! It’s me! (I also love that it has the motion sensor that flips the screen when you turn it to the side):
As you can see from the second pic, it does collect dust fairly easily – but that was to be expected. Even cooler? You know how on my main blog page, you can click to continue reading a post and it slides off to the right and back before showing the full post again? It actually does that on my phone! And you see down towards the bottom of the pic on the left where there is the YouTube trailer for the movie “Lbs.”? I can touch it and it pulls the video up full screen on my phone! And plays at about the speed that it does on my high speed laptop! SO impressive.
Yes, my geeky little heart is in love. I think that if it was living, I’d be volunteering to have its babies.
Okay, maybe not, but it was fun to say. And I’m sure this is probably just the “honeymoon period,” but I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.
And oh yeah…I can call people on it, too.

you crack me up.
Im such a luddite when it comes to technology…I WISH I were more geekexcited as I get paralyzed by the new phoneage

I’m super jealous! I’d already decided the HTC EVO was my next phone when I went phone shopping with my husband a few weeks ago. So cool. Unfortunately I’m stuck with my Blackberry 9700 for another year, although I do love it a lot, I just don’t like the small screen.
Take care!

Being a Sprint customer and lover of all things Google, I was hoping to be able to upgrade to the EVO but I was less than a year into my contract. I wound up getting two iPhones for what it would have cost me to pay full price for the EVO. Of course there’s also the added cost of having to break the Sprint contract. It was worth it and now my husband has an iPhone, too.
I did test drive the EVO in my local Sprint store. It’s pretty slick. Have fun!

Me and MizFit are co-luddites I guess. Can’t get excited about your EVO (is that anything like extra virgin olive oil?…’cause I ALREADY got some of that in my cupboard!)
BUT…I can get excited about your new photo. Whooohoo! What a cutie! Nice to see some color in those cheeks. hehe
Now, a drumroll for me, please……..down 2 lbs! Oh the cursed plateau seems to be over, for now anyway.
Hope you get some rest soon! BTW, best book I’ve ever found about insomnia: “Insomniac” by Gayle Greene. As a decades-long insomniac, I can attest that Ms. Greene has left no stone unturned in this amazing volume. Only problem: it is much too interesting to put you to sleep!
LOL Thanks, Rebecca! And congratulations on your loss!! That’s so fantastic!!
New phone new phone la la la la la!
Had fun Saturday night. Will lock the cat up next time.
