“Lbs.” the Movie Nominated for Spirit Award

Anyone who has been following my blog for any length of time knows that I’m a huge supporter of the movie, “Lbs.,” and have done my best to promote it as much as I can on here. Supposedly a DVD is still in the works with lots of extra features that should be released within the next few weeks. (YAY…trying not to be impatient. ) I also learned today via Facebook that “Lbs.” has been nominated for a Spirit Award (recognizing independent films).  The award they’ve been nominated for is the John Cassavetes Award.  To see [ ... ]

Crazy Week!

Hi all! I hope you’re doing well! I am doing pretty good, however, exhausted and a bit stressed.  I had a pretty good weekend.  Spent Friday night watching a movie with some new friends.  Took my mom to the airport on Saturday (she went to Florida).  Spent Saturday night at a party at another friend’s house.  Spent most of Sunday recuperating from said party (and from allergies).   Then ran errands and did laundry, etc. Unfortunately, I had to take my car into the shop yesterday morning to have the transmission checked out – and have not heard a word.  Um, [ ... ]

Feeling No Regrets

Hi people! I know, I know….my blog writing has been kinda on the sketchy side lately.  I apologize – not that I think you’re anxiously sitting at the edge of your seat just waiting for me to post something.  I know better than that.  But things have been a little nuts in my world lately. First, a couple of comments regarding my Wordless Wednesday post of last week.  The first pic was of my first taste of Indian food.  I went with my friends who moved here to KC (who both love Indian and have tried it at various places [ ... ]

“Lbs.” the Movie Coming on DVD!!

From the subject heading, any of you who have been following my blog for a while know how ecstatic I was to hear today that “Lbs.” will be coming to DVD. They announced today that it should be releasing in less than two months, in time for Christmas.  Here is what they said: Finally!!!!! “Lbs.” THE DVD, is less than 2 months away. It will have DELETED SCENES including the infamous “PRISON SCENE”, CAST INTERVIEWS, DIRECTOR COMMENTARY, BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE, REHEARSALS, and AUDIO RECORDINGS FROM THE FIRST STAGED READING OVER 10 YEARS AGO! It’s going to be an awesome [ ... ]

KC Ren Fest

Today, my mom and I had a Mother/Daughter day at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival.  This is its final weekend, and I was really afraid that I was going to miss it this year.  In fact, I had believed that last weekend was the last weekend, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was still open.  Tomorrow, Sunday, is the last day.  If you’re in the KC area and are a total geek for this stuff like I am, then I highly recommend you get your behinds out there to check it out. For some reason, [ ... ]

Brené Brown’s New Book!

You may remember that I have talked about Brené Brown’s work into shame research and authenticity quite often on my blog.  I would say that I’m a huge fan of her, but “fan” isn’t quite the right word.  I just really admire her work and what she does.  There is so much truth behind it and I know that she is affecting people’s lives on a daily basis. Plus, she’s just an incredible woman.  I keep saying that I want to be her when “I grow up.” You may also remember that I was lucky enough to meet [ ... ]

My New Hours: So Far

As most all of you know, one of my biggest changes lately has been the recent (as of the 4th of October) shift in my work hours.  I went from working from about 4pm until midnight M-F to 1pm-9pm on Mondays and 12pm-8pm the rest of the week. It may not seem like that big of a change, but it has made a world of difference.  Even though there are many nights that I still do the same ol’ same ol’ of heading straight home and vegging, it has had a huge effect on my attitude and how I feel.  There [ ... ]

Taking Back the Control

I’m still working on my “emotional eating” blog post…okay, I really put it on hold.  As I mentioned, it’s really long…and really, well, emotional.  So I just needed to take a step back. Instead, today, I’d like to chat about something I was thinking about yesterday.  I’ve written over and over throughout the past few months about the changes I’ve been making.  I know you’re all probably sick of hearing about it and are thinking….damn, is this girl ever gonna get back to the weight loss talk?  Really, it all ties in together for me.  Before, when I was losing all [ ... ]

Checking In

Hi folks!  I know I haven’t been writing much lately.  Have been meaning to, but have just been trying to get settled into my new routine and such.  Thank you so much to those of you who left comments and sent messages checking on me.  You all are the best and I truly am amazed every day at the compassion and caring in the world.  Sometimes it’s easy to forget that there are good people out there and you all remind me darn near every day. So far, I think my friends are getting settled in okay.  Spent a lot of [ ... ]

A Perfect Protest

Yesterday, I mentioned Brené Brown’s new blog post: The Perfect Protest. My whole life, I’ve been plagued with the desire, need, mandatory-ness of being perfect.  Or at least, I always felt that it was mandatory for me to strive for it.  Since it is, frankly, damn impossible for anyone to be perfect, and even more impossible for myself to be, I was constantly in the mode of self-frustration, self-loathing, self-disgust, etc. In fact, this song could have been my anthem for myself growing up: You all know that I admire Brené and her work tremendously.  You know that her book, “

Lil’ Bits

This is going to be another one of my little bit of everything posts, and it’s going to be a bit long, so you might just want to skim through and see if anything catches your eye that you’d like to read further. I know I’ve been a bit M.I.A. lately, and hopefully I will be able to change that soon!  I’ve been a regular on Twitter, so you can always catch me there – the randomness that I post there knows no limits. Though I’ve been feeling that I need to take a step back from even Twitter for [ ... ]

Happy Birthday to Me :o)

As most of you know, tomorrow’s my birthday!  I’m turning the ripe old age of 33. I have mixed feelings about the day.  On the one hand, I mentioned that I’m always a little sad around it because of my brother.  I’m also a little wary of it, because it has pretty much ended up sucking every year for some reason or another.  Seems like something always goes wrong.  For example, last year, even though I had the day off, I still ended up having to deal with some work issues. Now on the other hand, I’m actually really looking [ ... ]

Vulnerability and Questions

Hi folks!  I hope you all had a fabulous week. Overall, mine was pretty good.  I had a few low moments – a few things that are bothering me kind of snuck up on me here and there, but I also had a lot of fun. First, TEDxKC was Thursday night.  I met some friends beforehand at the Nelson Art Gallery (where TEDx was held) and since we were there early, we walked around checking things out for a bit before TEDx started.  We first hit the room with the real mummy and then looked at some of the ancient artifacts, after [ ... ]

I Met Brené Brown!

Okay, so this is going to be super short, because frankly, I’m kind of tired. I had a good night.  Met some great new people, had some fun with some old-er friends and GOT TO MEET BRENE BROWN!  And even better, she recognized me before I said anything! Okay, so the full story/scoop will come tomorrow. But had to share my excitement! (Not the most flattering pic of me, but it was a great, exciting moment!):
