A Miracle and a 2 Point PB&J

The miracle (which, amazingly, happens to not be the two point PB&J) is that I didn’t gain weight this week!  This is the first time in almost two months that I wasn’t up at least a pound!  Now, I was up 0.1 pounds, but I refuse to count that as a gain.  That is most definitely a maintain.  WHOOHOO!  It may not seem like much, but this is progress, people! Now, the two point PB&J.  I usually eat Sara Lee’s 100 Calories and Delightful bread.  The kind I always get is the 100% whole wheat with honey.  It is only one [ ... ]

Weigh-In 5/28/09

We’re actually going to skip right over my weigh-in for this week, because it really isn’t worth mentioning (yes, it was that bad). So instead, this is going to be another mish-mash of things that I’ve been doing or things that have been happening to me over the past week. Last Saturday, I had a neat experience at the gardens I love.  My mom and I were just walking along and saw that a woman and her young daughter were walking towards us.  I heard the woman say something like “she will love that you picked that for her.”  As we passed, [ ... ]

Dark Chocolate and Cheerios

No, I’m not putting those two things together….although…hmmm.  Actually, I HATE dark chocolate….with a passion…..normally. I have two new addictions (yes, we’ve all learned by now that Pamela is a person of addictions – luckily they’ve just always been of the legal variety). The first is South Beach Living Fiber Fit Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies.  These yummy little 100 calorie morsels contain 20% of the daily recommended value of fiber.  Where the dark chocolate comes into play is that each little cookie is dipped in dark chocolate.  At first, I thought “UGH!  No way!”  But I remembered some ice cream goodies that my mom [ ... ]

Rewrite Your Life

I’m doing better, everybody!  Not only am I slowly, but surely, getting over my cold – I still have a scratchy throat and a bit of a stuffy nose, but it’s getting better – but I am also slowly, but surely, getting back on track.  I did much better over this past weekend.  I only went a little bit over on Saturday and was actually a point under my target on Sunday.  Today, I’m a couple of points over, but I counted them and it wasn’t completely out of control.  Progress!  I think seeing my progress chart really put things [ ... ]

New-to-Me Products

Random thought:  You know what I really hate?  When you get a piece of popcorn stuck in your teeth and you can’t figure out which teeth it’s stuck between.  It just feels all wrong, you know?  Okay, maybe it’s just me. So since I’ve been shopping lately with keeping an eye toward trying to find foods to get myself back on track, I’ve stumbled across a few new-to-me products.  I’d say they were new, but for all I know, these could have been around for a while. Oreo Fun Stix – Wafery, flaky, chocolatey, oreo-y goodness in a stick!  Forget the milk [ ... ]

Another Weird Concoction

So I’ve decided to call my latest weird concoction “Mardis Gras Couscous” just because it’s rather colorful and because I just pretty much threw in everything that I could think of, or that caught my eye at the store. I got the idea from the other various concoctions I’d tried with my whole wheat couscous.  I had tried it with lean ground turkey and lean ground beef and decided that I liked the consistency of the ground beef better. I cooked the 96% lean ground beef without using any added oil, just adding a bit of Pam (not me, the cooking spray!) to the [ ... ]

Sodium Evaluation

I knew there was a lot of sodium in things.  In fact, ever since I started Weight Watchers, I’ve been keeping an eye on it.  If there’s a choice between two items fairly similar in nutritional information, I’ll always go with the one with less sodium.  For example, I refuse to buy any canned vegetables that aren’t Del Monte’s No Salt Added canned vegetables.  I rarely, if ever, put salt on anything. I knew that my intake of sodium, however, would probably be fairly high since I do eat a lot of easy-to-prepare meals.  I’ve said before that I don’t really like [ ... ]

Odd Concoctions

Over a year ago, I fell completely in love with a frozen dinner that I found at Target made by Archer Farms.  It was Tilapia with Mango Salsa on top and then couscous underneath.  YUM.  So, naturally, they seem to have discontinued the product (kinda like they did with the good fruit strips they used to have).  Or maybe I just haven’t been able to find it anywhere near me. I had honestly never had couscous before I tried this product, but discovered that I truly loved it.  Over the months that have passed since I had it, I [ ... ]

Helping my dad bake a cake

My dad is not always the most romantic guy.  He doesn’t always seem to know how to show his love.  I do know that he loves my mom a great deal in the way he worries about her and takes care of her.  As I mentioned in my last post, today was my mom’s birthday.  She turned 58.  They’ve been married for 34 years now and by this point, presents aren’t a huge thing anymore.  My dad is also on disability due to his epilepsy, and has been unable to drive since before I was born.  He has to do [ ... ]

Thank you

I just have to say thank you to all of the well wishes I’ve received from you guys.  They’ve definitely helped lift my spirits.  I’m still feeling a bit nauseous all of the time, but I’ve noticed that it seems to get worse the hungrier I get. I talked to my doctor’s nurse earlier in the week, who relayed my message to him, and he wants me to try to hang on for a bit longer and see if it goes away before he tries me on something else.  He actually put me on two different medications for two different issues, [ ... ]

McDonald’s: A cure for nausea?

I wrote a few days ago about how my doctor recently prescribed a new medication for me.  I started taking it very early Sunday morning and ever since I’ve felt like about 13 shades of hell.  13 was a random number picked for the sole reason that it is a historically unlucky number and I know I’ve been feeling like a lot of shades of hell.  Everything I’ve read about this medication has told me that this feeling will go away, but that it could take up to three months for that to happen.  Ack! I don’t know if I’m [ ... ]

My Weekend Mission: Point Friendly Tuna/Pasta Salad

I’ve made a goal for myself this weekend.  Before starting Weight Watchers, one of my favorite foods was this tuna salad that my mom always made.  It contains those tiny, tiny pasta balls (ancini de pepe), tuna, Miracle Whip, and relish, and then it’s refrigerated so that it’s really cold.  YUM.  Of course, with the mayo and pasta, it’s not the most point friendly.  I’m sure that my serving sizes didn’t help the matter.  I LOVED this pasta.  Hence the fact that I haven’t dared to make it ever since. My mission this weekend is to make it point friendly and/or [ ... ]

Rain, Rain, Go Away

My walk was called on account of rain today.  It’s been pouring all day.  Normally I adore the rain, but not when it interferes with my walks and when I have to drive in it.  And I wasn’t about to go for a walk in the rain.  I just don’t enjoy the rain or walking that much.  So without shedding a tear, I went back to bed.  Day two of my second week has gone well.  Except for the lack of exercise yet again. I’m currently eating my lunch which consists of: Ambrosia apple (1 point) – I am seriously still loving these. Weight [ ... ]

Ambrosia Apples

I’ve grown to adore apples and have been eating one every day with my lunch at work.  So far, my favorites have been Gala and Fuji, with Pink Lady and Honeycrisp as close runners-up. When I ran to the grocery store on Sunday, there was a stack of boxes near the entrance of the fruits and vegetables area.  The display was advertising a new brand of apples called Ambrosia. I brought one to work with my meal tonight and have to say that it immediately flew to the top of my list of favorite apples.  It was really crispy and really sweet.  I [ ... ]
