100 Calorie Popcorn Snack Cakes

Orville Redenbacher has recently released new 100 calorie packs of mini popcorn smart cakes.  I had received an announcement with coupons about them in the mail one day and tried to keep an eye out for them at the grocery store.  I found them this past Saturday at Super Wal-Mart.  From what I saw, they come in  caramel, cheddar, and chocolate.  While I was eyeing the cheddar ones, I decided to check out the ingredients.  Sadly, they blatantly admit to containing MSG. Since an incident while my friends were here, I’ve been actively checking out the MSG content on all of my foods.  While I won’t claim [ ... ]

Big and Juicy

No, I’m not talking about me.  I’m talking about the grapes I’m eating.  They’re black seedless grapes that I got at Whole Foods yesterday.  While outrageously expensive, these things are HUGE and DELICIOUS!  I mean, we’re talking the size of eyeballs here.  Grapes have become my recent addiction.  I’ve always adored grapes, but didn’t eat them very often.  Frankly, I was probably just too lazy to want to pull them off the stems and wash them.  But in preparation for my Metformin induction, I’ve been gradually adding more fruits into my diet.  After trying them all again, I’ve decided that [ ... ]

All-Bran Extra Fiber Cereal

I’ve been on a mission to find a low point cereal, and I’ve finally found one that I can add to my meal plan on a daily basis, free of guilt. It’s All-Bran Extra Fiber Cereal.  At 50 calories, 1 gram of fat, and 13 grams of fiber for 1/2 a cup (a pretty good amount), it’s 0 points!  So, if I’m going to have a cup of milk, I might as well add some of this cereal and get some extra fiber at the same time. I was afraid that it would really taste like cardboard, but I actually like it.  I [ ... ]

Ack! – Sheridan’s

I don’t know what my deal is, but today I am ravenous!  I’m not talking of a situation in which I just feel like I want to eat a lot, I’m talking about gnawing, bottomless-pit, literal hunger pains.  So far, I’ve confined myself to an extra banana and yogurt, without going to town on anything else, but what do I find when I get to work? Today was sundae day!  They catered in Sheridan’s custard for the entire company, and saved us each a cup of it (with chocolate syrup and strawberries) in our freezer.  How do I avoid the temptation?  AHHH! To be honest, [ ... ]

I dare myself

A pretty terrific guy recently posted a dare on his blog.  In fact, he pretty much dared us to dare ourselves. I did some thinking and tried to figure out the area of my weight loss journey that I have really been wanting to work on.  So here’s my dare to myself: I dare myself to eat breakfast every day for a week.  I’m notorious for never eating breakfast.  I’ve been that way my entire life.  I always believed it was just because I didn’t want to have to get up any earlier than I had to.  While this was a huge [ ... ]

A little bit of everything

Hi all!  I really hate Mondays.  I still have 14 hours until I have to be at work, but it’s just that knowing that it’s coming that gets me.  Ugh. I went to see The Dark Knight on Saturday and loved it!  It thought it was fantastic.  I’ve been a HUGE Christian Bale fan ever since I first saw Empire of the Sun on TV.  I was pretty young and it became one of my favorite movies pretty quickly.  I’ve since collected nearly all of his movies on video/DVD with a few rare, hard-to-find, exceptions.  My favorites are Newsies and Equilibrium. Oh and [ ... ]

I fought the Krispy Kreme and the Krispy Kreme won

Six points.  Six freaking points.  I knew it was six freaking points, and I still ate it!  I knew it was six freaking points, and that I had no points left for the day, and that I was running low on flex points this week, and I still ate it! My only excuse is that I’ve been craving a Krispy Kreme glazed donut for a really long time now.  And when someone leaves a box of six donuts in our department at work just for us and I’ve been craving one, well, my willpower just can’t stand up to that.  So I ate [ ... ]

20 Healthiest Foods Under a $1

My friend, Shawna, sent me a link to this article: The 20 Healthiest Foods for Under $1 While I already get a great many of these in, I just can’t bring myself to do the sardines and coffee.  I’d be terrified to see what starting to include regular caffeine into my diet would do after having virtually none for over two years.  Yikes!  Thanks, Shawna!

Spaghetti Squash

Once I got up the courage to try it, spaghetti squash became one of my favorite low calorie/low point foods.  For only 0.5 points, you can have up to 9 ounces (cooked).  Or, for only one point, you can have up to 13 ounces. It’s very simple to cook.  You just cut it in half length-wise, place it cut side down on a baking sheet, and bake it for about 35-40 minutes at 375 degrees or until the squash is tender enough to scrape out with a fork.  The temperature and times may vary depending on your oven, of course. My favorite way to [ ... ]

Cruelty

Cruelty, as defined by Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary: The quality or state of being cruel. Cruel, as defined by Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary: Disposed to inflict pain or suffering : devoid of humane feelings. Cruelty or Cruel, as defined by me: Handing me two extra-large, extra-chocolatey cupcake/muffins with sinfully creamy chocolate frosting and saying, “If you don’t want these, give them to your parents.” Uh-huh.  I told you.  Cruel. I did good, though.  You’d be proud of me.  I wrapped them in foil and gave them to my dad.  I didn’t have a single bite of those little bits of heaven. Okay, I did lick the frosting that inadvertently ended up on my [ ... ]

All Baked Cheetos Are Not Created Equal

All Baked Cheetos are not created equal.  At least, that’s my personal belief.  Ever since I started Weight Watchers, 100 calorie packs of Baked Cheetos have been my go-to snack when I wanted something crunchy/cheesy.  I adore them.  I’ve been trying lately to figure out ways to cut down on my grocery bill, which by the way is completely outrageous considering I’m buying food for one single, solitary person.  Anyone who argues that it’s not more expensive to shop healthier is in denial. I’m constantly hearing from people that it’s stupid to buy 100 calorie packs, because you’re only paying for the [ ... ]

Dinner Revisions

I’ve posted previously (multiple times) about my revulsion of the new Archer Farms Fruit Strips and how I have a limited amount of the older (good) ones left.  Well, my stash is dwindling, so I’ve been contemplating how I’m going to switch up my lunches for work. I know it’s not the best thing in the world, but this has been my daily work lunch: Hamburger Helper Cheesy Beef Taco Packet (4 points) Curves 90 calorie butter popcorn bag (1 point) 2 Archer Farms Fruit Strips (1.5 points) Total:  6.5 points I’ve eaten this practically every day for a year or more.  Now that Archer Farms [ ... ]

Kitchen Staples

Here is a list of items that I always keep in my kitchen and use on a regular basis (i.e., almost every day).  I don’t know what I’d do without them or how I would stay on plan! In no particular order: Fiber Gourmet pasta (I can’t possibly rave about this stuff enough.) Nacho Cheddar Kernel Season’s Mrs. Dash (My favorites are “Garlic and Herb”, and “Tomato, Basil, Garlic.”  Because of these, I’ve almost been able to cut out added salt completely.)

Today brought a gift

I love waffles.  I always have.  Since starting Weight Watchers, my two favorite brands have been Eggo Low-Fat Nutrigrain and Kashi Honey Oat.  Both are delicious and are 3 points for a serving of two waffles.  At least they were until this week. While the Eggo ones are good, the Kashi have been my favorite.  I think their flavor is just a bit better.  Unfortunately, they are also quite a bit more expensive, so I’ve stuck to the Eggo ones for quite a while. I love waffles so much that I usually eat them every day Monday through Friday.  This past Monday [ ... ]

Random Thoughts

I hope everyone reading in the US had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend!  As always with weekends and holidays, it went by entirely too fast.  I feel like I just left work on Friday and it’s almost time to go back. It just started thundering – I love thunderstorms. My weekend was pretty great.  I didn’t do anything really special for the holiday, but I did go to three movies!  Yes, three!  I went and saw Chronicles of Narnia:  Prince Caspian on Saturday.  I thought it was really excellent.  The cast was really great, even better than the first time around. On Sunday, I [ ... ]
