Thoughts on Blogging and Obesity

Hi all.  As you’ve most likely noticed, I haven’t really been *present* in the blogging world lately, either on my own blog or others.  I’ve had this blog post rambling around in my brain for a while now, so bear with me while I try to work it all out.  I will share my thoughts regarding my own blog and then my thoughts regarding others’ blogs.  I’m going to try to be totally honest (well, I’m not going to lie, I just might not share everything I’ve been thinking). Thoughts regarding my own blog: When I first started this blog in January [ ... ]

All Kinds of Fun Stuff

Okay, first, as I suspected, mother nature leaped straight over spring and fell straight into summer – it was 86 here today!  I’m not ready for that yet.  In fact, I swear to God these flowers weren’t by our house yesterday: This means time for weeding (ha, yeah right) and oh god, mowing soon!!!! Second, I practically laughed the entire way into work today and am about to blow wide open an undercover conspiracy.  There is a 24 Hour Fitness that I pass almost every day that I’ve considered joining.  The two things that have held me back are that it [ ... ]

Disturbing

Have you heard about this?  Lissa posted an interesting article this afternoon about a woman who is trying to reach 1,000 pounds.  Make sure and read the article that she links to if you haven’t already.  I have to admit I was very disturbed by this.  It is her body, but it makes me wonder what would make a person have a goal like that.  (I was particularly interested in her comment that her husband would like her to be bigger.)  And the fact that people would pay to watch this really disturbs me. It also actually reminded me of [ ... ]

Kevin Smith

By now I’m sure all of you have heard of/are following the Kevin Smith Southwest Airlines debacle.  I’ve been following it here and there, but stumbled across a post of Christy’s that led me to Kevin’s blog.  And I love it!  I’ll be following it more in the future.  She also linked to this blog post at Salon.com that I adored.  So thank you, Christy! Flying has always been an anxiety-ridden experience for me.  The only couple of times that I remember not worrying about fitting in the seat were when I was in 1st [ ... ]

PETA

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the disgusting (my opinion) PETA billboard. Let me state two things before I further state my opinion: 1.  I’m all for animal rights. 2.  I’m all for people being vegetarian or vegan if that is what they choose. Now my opinion.  I can’t stand PETA.  I think their tactics go too far, are often counter-productive in most situations, and in others, like this one and the one below, are just plain disgusting. My dad sent me this link that I thought was really interesting.  I enjoyed the interview with Montel, so make sure to listen [ ... ]

Just How Fat?

Often, my dad will leave and mark articles from the newspaper for me to read when I get home from work.  Yesterday, this one was waiting for me: Today’s weighty issue: The Ingraham-McCain catfight I’ve tried not to get too political on here, but we all know that I’m a die-hard democrat.  This article, however, really has nothing to do with politics.  It has to do with human decency and suprisingly enough is actually relevant to this blog.  I agree 100% with the author. I suggest you check out the whole article, but will quote a portion of it here: As the [ ... ]

About Fat Haters

I’ve posted often about the way overweight people are treated and how disgusting it can be. I just read a blog post that really struck my heart – and made my blood boil.  It wasn’t the blog post itself that made me angry (livid actually), it was in reading about the article the writer was explaining. Check it out here:  Fat Haters Many of the comments are heart-breaking, too.  Now I’m preparing my blood pressure to go off and read about Mr. Nugent’s sludge.

I found this article to be very interesting….and exactly what I’ve been screaming all along: Half of Overweight Adults May Be Heart-Healthy So enough with the stereotypes and witch hunts already!
