Losing a Point and the Weight Watchers Flex Plan

Along with losing 2.1 pounds this week, I’ve lost another friend.  I’ve lost another point. As you all know, I’ve been doing the Weight Watchers Flex Plan.  On this plan, foods are given point values based on the number of calories they have, how many grams of fat they have, and how many grams of fiber they have.  These numbers are used in a formula to calculate the food’s point value.  Or, if you’re a Weight Watchers customer, then you simply have to input those values into a points slider or calculator and voila!  You have a points value.  Their online [ ... ]

Weigh-In 4/22/08

I lost 2.1 pounds this week!  I’m on a roll!  It’s so nice to be back.  With this loss today, I’ve also broken into a new decade.  Luckily, though, I’m not far enough in to have dropped a point, but that should be coming soon.  Yikes!  I’m having a hard enough time with the points I am allowed now.  I don’t know what I’ll do when I have to drop another point. I’m a bit concerned about the upcoming weekend.  I have a big luncheon to attend on Saturday, and then a family get-together on Sunday with out-of-town relatives.  Hopefully I’ll [ ... ]

Updated Pics

Well, guys, I’ve updated my pictures (link on the menu bar above).  I took new pictures today in honor of my losing 151 lbs so far.  I didn’t think there would be much of a visible change from the pictures I took 25 lbs ago, but I was pleasantly surprised.  I couldn’t help but laugh when I tried on my old clothes.  It was hard keeping those pants from falling down!  Even the shirt didn’t want to stay on my shoulders! My mom and I spent the day at the zoo today which was a lot of fun.  I haven’t been there in about [ ... ]

Weigh-In 4/15/08 “150 Pounds Gone!”

Well, tax day is now officially a good day!  I did it!! I did it!!  Finally, after all of these months of roller coasting up and down and struggling, I did it!  I’ve lost 151.1 pounds!  I lost 1.7 pounds this week.  This means I finally have less than 40 pounds to go (38.8 to be exact)!  I may stop after about 20 more, though.  We’ll see. My next mini goal is to lose 4.8 pounds.  If I can do this, then I will merely be overweight and I can leave my obese days behind me.  Forever.  And I can do it. [ ... ]

Fiber Gourmet Pasta

There is no bigger staple in my food pantry than Fiber Gourmet Pasta.  I can’t possibly praise it highly enough or recommend it more.  There are some weeks where I have this stuff virtually every day! It’s not exactly like typical pasta, but it’s pretty darn close.  Really close! They have several different varieties, ALL of which are only 2 points for a 2oz (dry) serving.  For a serving of the same size, regular pasta is usually 4 points and whole wheat pasta usually runs 3 points. Here are their varieties (none have a very strong taste, so I think they could all work [ ... ]

Why The Scale Lies

There is a great article that I read shortly after joining Weight Watchers concerning the perils of constantly peeking at the scale.  It was recently brought to my attention again and I still find it incredibly useful. If you ever have a tendency to peek at the scale and perhaps freak if you see an abnormally large gain, this article is for you. Why The Scale Lies

Weigh-In 3/18/08

All right.  That’s it.  I quit.  Okay, not really, but I am getting pretty darn frustrated here.  After yet another week of sticking to the plan and doing what I’m supposed to, the scale showed a gain of 1.4 pounds today.  Argh. I’ve been keeping an Excel spreadsheet ever since I started Weight Watchers that tracks and graphs out my weight, losses/gains, how much I need to lose, my BMI, leftover flex points, goals (and pounds needed to be lost to meet them), activity points, measurements, etc.  Yeah, I know I’m showing my geekiness here, but it’s pretty darn cool if I [ ... ]

Archer Farms Update

So I’m still not sure why the idiots at Archer Farms decided to change their fruit strips from delicious, thick fruit strips to foul-tasting plastic, but the fact remains that they did.  I took a trip to Target last weekend and checked out their selection of fruit strips.  Sure enough, every single box has switched to the new ones.  However, after digging all the way to the back of the shelf, I was able to find a bunch of the old ones and bought darn near all of them.  I think I bought about 16 boxes of them.  It was worth [ ... ]

Crazy Popcorn Nutritionals

Okay, people.  What is the deal with the crazy nutritional information located on microwave popcorn?  I mean, seriously, who eats raw popcorn kernels?  So why is it necessary to have the nutritional information for unpopped kernels on the box at all?  I personally believe it is just to drive you insane. One of my favorite snacks has been Orville Redenbacher’s 100 calorie mini bags of Kettle Corn.  Unfortunately, I calculated Weight Watchers points for them before I ever read the “fine print.”  And sadly, I never double-checked.  I decided to take a second look the other day and realized that the [ ... ]

Weigh-In 2/26/08

Well, I was up 2 pounds again this week even though I stayed within my points.  I’m afraid I may be reaching a plateau again.  Ugh.

Blue Bunny Strikes Again

This time in a good way!  I was at the grocery store getting my usual addiction in the form of their Fudge Lites and saw their Sugar Free Pops.  The box contains 12 pops in the flavors of cherry, banana, strawberry, and orange (my personal favorite).  The best thing about them is that they’re made with Splenda, so they don’t have that nasty “diet” aftertaste to them and they are only 15 calories, 0 grams of fat, and 2 grams of fiber each!  Even better, according to the Weight Watchers calculator, you can have 3 (yes, THREE!) for 0 points!  [ ... ]

Good Sense Bar-B-Q Flavored Soynuts

I have a new addiction!  And it is a much better one than Blue Bunny Fudge Bars.  And this one I can somewhat control (as of now, anyway!).  It is Good Sense Bar-B-Q Flavored Soynuts. I’ll admit it – I’ve never had a soynut until yesterday.  For one reason, the link between soy and breast cancer has tended to scare me a bit, even though it’s never been completely proven.  I did read one study eventually that said that it is fine if eaten in reasonable quantities from food.  Although, who can define what the term “reasonable quantities” means? Anyway….the point is [ ... ]

Blue Bunny is the Devil

Yes, I said it.  Blue Bunny is the devil.  They make these Sweet Freedom Fudge Lite ice cream bars that are fat free and sugar free.  I HATE sugar free food items.  Hate them.  With a passion.  They always leave a nasty aftertaste in my mouth and just don’t taste right when I am eating them. These, however, are heaven to me.  And, at only 35 calories each, 0 grams of fat, and 3 grams of fiber each, they’re 0 points for one bar, or one point for two bars!  The problem is, in Weight Watchers, 0 point items are only 0 [ ... ]

Glucose Tolerance Test

You know you’re truly a Weight Watcher when the thought of having a glucose test makes you shudder.  It’s not because of the cost (although I’ll probably have a heart attack when I get the bill); it’s not because of the fasting (I’ve gone longer without eating); and it’s not the thought of the needles or drawing of the blood.  It’s the fact that it’s going to take 6 (SIX) of my precious, precious (“My preciouusssss” - sorry, sci fi/fantasy geek here) points for the day!! ACK!  For a girl who only gets 25 points a day and struggles with that, [ ... ]

Mayday!

Okay, people…the ship is going down and I’m sending out an SOS.  I don’t know what my deal has been over the past month.  I’ve stuck so diligently to the weight watchers plan for the past year that my recent struggles are really getting to me.  It’s like I’m rebelling or something.  I know that perhaps I have been too strict on myself.  For the most part, I looked at sticking to my points like someone else would look at sticking to the law.  I considered it a crime to go over my points.  Don’t get me wrong, I did [ ... ]
